Guest guest
I forgot to mention before I am a new member and I wish I would have known about this group before surgery because maybe I wouldn't have been so nervous. Anyways I was looking back at some posting about the cost and I am in shock about the cost of some of the hospital bills. I was wondering if for most of you it was a overnight stay or longer. And if you stayed overnight what was a rough cost of your hospital bills? My insurance is only covering up to $12,000 and I am concerned because I am a full time college student so I don't make very much money. Plus my parents are'nt really able to help with more than the $2000 they are putting towards the $3000 deducible. One other question is has anyone else experienced numbness of there toungue? I have numbness on the right side of my toungue which is the side I had the c-toma surgery on. Thanks April
Guest guest
I did stay in the hospital overnight, but they informed me that as long as I was out by noon, it was considered " same day surgery " by the insurance company. If you end up with unpaid bills, it has been my experience (when I had hospital bills as a grad student) that, as long as you make some effort to pay something on them (llke $25 a month or so), everyone is happy. From what folks have reported in this group, the costs have varied considerably depending on where the surgery was done. Mine seems to have totaled $14000 and I have had to pay about $1400. My c-tom surgery was in May and I am still having some numbness of my tongue on one side. It seems to be less than it was initially, or else I am just getting used to it. le ---------- >From: aprildr2 <aprildr2@...> >cholesteatoma >Subject: Another question Cost and side affects >Date: Mon, Jul 5, 2004, 6:19 PM > > I forgot to mention before I am a new member and I wish I would have > known about this group before surgery because maybe I wouldn't have > been so nervous. I just keep telling myself no matter the cost it will all be worth it in the end. And it will really be worth it if I do end up with more hearing in my ear after they do reconsturctive surgery. Thank you again. April
Guest guest
Hi April, I am in Canada, so I cannot comment on the cost. However, if you are having a Canal Wall Down/ or Modified Radical Mastoidectomy, there is usually admission to hospital for one day. I believe for most Canal Wall Up surgeries, there is no admission to hospital, just day surgery and then discharge home. Have you already had the surgery? Many people complain of numbness on their and lack of taste after this type of surgery, but it is usually temporary. It is caused perhaps by bruising of a nerve that passes through your middle ear.
