Guest guest
You can also go to an audiologist or hearing specialist and get a molded earplug -- they're wonderful and I have been using one ever since I was about 7-8 (I'm 33 now). I do have to get a new one about every 5-6 years, though, just because they shrink or become so hard. It's great, though. I can even swim under water and get minimal leakage. Hope this helps. I. Guest guest
OH!!!!! WE PUT IT OVER THE COTTON BALL!!!! I THOUGHT THAT'S WHAT THE DR SAID. I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT ON THE COTTON BALL THEN PUT IN OPENING. THAT MAKES SENSE. WE HAVE HAD TO PRACTICALLY WASH HER EAR AND CHEEK AND THEN SWAB OUT THE EXCESS A REAL PAIN. IS THAT WHAT EVERYBODY DOES. DIANA SUGESTIONS Hello , I'm not sure why so much gets in her hair, but let me explain what I do- I have just past the shoulder length hair (except where the surgeon had to shave it where it is 1/2 inch ...) I use a cotton ball with vaseline- and I don't seem to have a problem, I am sure that my hair is away when I put the cotton ball in, but the cotton ball I form is small, fits just perfect, also I put most of the vaseline on the part on the INSIDE of the ball that will be on the inside of the ear- and not the external part- I do put it all over the ball, but just not as much on the outside. I just be sure that the inside is coated really well with vaseline that way if water get's in the cotton ball, it will not get past the vaseline wall I have put on the other side..(did that make sence??) Sometimes I wished I had a "Plug" that is made just for my ear, so I can just plug my ear. If I do get vaseline in my hair it seems to wash out rather easy- perhaps the ointment you are using is just harder to get out?? It is really a pain doing the whole cotton ball, and vaseline thing.. not to mention messy... I feel for Beth- It's a drag... I hope my little "Here's what I do" story helps. ~ Kuhlmann <dkuhlmann2@...> wrote: HI ALL, WELL HERE GOES WITH ANOTHER WHAT HAVE YOU ALL TRIED QUESTION. Guest guest
Hi , I also put vaseline on the "inside" part of the cotton ball, not all over. That seems to work really well for me. I haven't had any problems with water getting into my ear. Good luck ! Ilona Kuhlmann <dkuhlmann2@...> wrote: OH!!!!! WE PUT IT OVER THE COTTON BALL!!!! I THOUGHT THAT'S WHAT THE DR SAID. Guest guest
Hi , I apply vaseline to the cotton ball in a small amount and place the vaseline side facing into the ear canal. As for your daughters hair, have you tried placing a shower cap over her hair. They have really cool and funky looking shower caps to choose from and this will help eliminate the funky antibiotic/vaseline getting all in her hair. Good luck!!! G. Guest guest
For a month after surgery Katelyn could not use her molded plugs because they didn't want any pressure near her eardrum. We were also told to put the vaseline all over the cotton ball (I believe the word the doctor used was " slather " ). We solved some of the problem of it getting in her hair by then placing a bandaid across her ear to hold the vaseline/cotton ball in the ear. Guest guest
- why don't you try a couple of shower caps. I've done that with Chels and it works pretty well. The bulk of her hair keeps the caps on. Caryn L. Gleixner Tabet DiVito & Rothstein LLC 180 N. Guest guest
The bandaid thing worked well when she had to wash her hair. When she finished washing her hair we would pull it back in a ponytail before taking the cottonball/bandaid off. We would wipe all the excess vaseline off and then let her hair down to brush out. The other option is if you have a handheld showerhead, she can lean over while you wash/rinse her hair (since you can see where her ear is, you can direct the water flow away from her ear -- she would still need to wear the cotton ball but you probably wouldn't have put as much vaseline on the cottonball). Guest guest
yes, the vaseline/cotton ball method really works---- i have much better luck cutting the cotton ball in half (i can only find the jumbo sized ones so using half fits much better in my ear). sometimes the cotton ball doesn't stick well, so i have also been placing a band-aid diagonally across my ear to hold the cotton ball securely in place. (this also provides another barrier of protection). and then after my shower i remove the band-aid/cotton ball and use the other (dry) half of the cotton ball to wipe off the leftover excess vaseline on my outer ear. it's a pain to go through this process every morning, but i keep reminding myself that " water is the enemy " (someone in this group has that motto--- very important!) good luck! > HI ALL, WELL HERE GOES WITH ANOTHER WHAT HAVE YOU ALL TRIED > QUESTION.
