Hi ,

Remember me? My son Brody had his surgery the same day as you did.

His incus was eroded and during the c'toma removal, they attempted to

reconstruct by removing it, cleaning it, and then replacing it.

Unfortunately it slipped sometime during recovery and he now has mild

to moderate hearing loss. Less hearing than before his surgery. But

his surgeon wants to reconstruct with prosthetic bone this coming

February. Did your surgeon mention reconstruction for you? Don't

give up hope yet. My son has also mentioned that sometimes his bad

ear feels plugged up and he is just getting over an infection that

required anti biotics. Somedays I find that his hearing is worst

than others as well.

Good luck and keep us posted. - Dee

Hi Dee,

Yes I remember you and Brody. How is he adjusting?

He has not mentioned reconstruction and I think that is the hardest

part of my accepting this might be it. I have better hearing days as

well and it is really making me angry. It either comes back or it

doesn't. Almost like it tis teasing me. Grrrrrr.

I am so sick and tired of hearing that I have to have PATIENCE. It's

been 4 mths. My husband mentioned yesterday that he is unimpressed

by the fact that whenever we mentioned the hearing to the DR. it's

almost as if he is getting iritated that we are questioning it.

Is this not his job?

I haven't had any infections since the surgery so I am lucky there.

But what I have noticed though is, even though nothing is draining

from my ear onto the pillow, I can feel something, or am I just

going crazy??

I am at my wits end and don't know what to do anymore.

Did I make a wrong choice in the Dr.? Do I allow him to do

reconstruction on my other ear?

Sednign you and Brody tons of prayers and hope his hearing gets

better.

Please keep me posted by e-mail or post.

Thanks

God Bless,

Dear ,

I'm sorry about your hearing. I have had 3 attempts just to improve my hearing after 4 cholesteatomas. I know the excitement post surgery when you can hear better and then the tremendous disappointment when after a short while (for me usually about 3 to 6 weeks) later your hearing drops dramatically. Your case may be different and it may be transient (I truly hope so). Unfortunately, mine was a permanent drop in hearing. It's normal to respond with feellings of frustration and even depression. Unfortunately, the prostheses are so small that it's very difficult for them to remain in place once the internal packing disolves. You must make sure you don't blow your nose, etc... I plan on getting hearing aids for both ears and waiting a while before trying again. I know its extremely disappointing, but I hope this has helped, and that either your hearing will return very soon or that you can look ahead to

your next try.

Best,

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for replying to my post. I sure need to hear that others have

experienced similar situations as I have.

Yes it is very disappointing but there is nothing I can do about it

now. The hardest part I am dealing with is the anger I have towards

him. I am livid with this Dr. I know he can't perform miracles and

should never had gotten my hopes up, but I trusted and beleived in

him.

I am sure within time, I will accept it but for now, I have way too

much anger to just let it go.

Hope this finds you well and good luck with the Aids.

I have one and LOVE IT. Can't imagine living without it.
