Hi everyone,

I am 3 wks post-op. I had the ear drum replaced and 2 of the 3

bones replaced. Now it seems I have a head cold. Is this a cause

for concern? My worry is that the added congestion will place more

pressure on the ear drum or the prosthetic bones.

If anybody has any experience with this, I would appreciate hearing

about it.

Thanks.

JoAnn:

I had a similar operation (ear drum replaced and protheses) and

caught a cold 4 weeks after the operation. It was right when I was

going in for my first post-op. Everything had healed already so it

wasn't really a problem. I was able to keep the sneezing down to a

minimum, too! Just try not to blow your nose real hard, and you

should be okay. I used over-the-counter decongestants to keep the

airways as clear as possible.

Thanks Dave. I am doing exactly as you have suggested. I have

retrained myself to sneeze with my mouth open (very unsatisfying)

and am taking decongestants. Also I have mostly avoided needing to

blow my nose.
