The surgery took about 4 hours. The surgeon said the retraction

pocket had grown upwards and that caused a lot of difficulty in

getting all of the c-toma. He said he had to remove a lot more bone

than he had planned on. He had originally said that he had hopes for

my hearing improving, but now has downgraded it to staying abut the

same. He's not sure if he got 100% of the c-toma or not, but says that

the plan right now is to go with one surgery unless I have problems

later, and I'm perfectly fine with that. In fact, I don't know how

some of you have had 5 surgeries. That is a pretty tough deal. I

really feel bad for you that you've had to go through that five times,

or twice for that matter.

Hello Gerry,

I'm sorry to hear that the prognosis isn't too positive for hearing

improvement but the important thing is that you're satisifed with your

outcome. Glad you're doing well.

Blessings,

Luanne :)

Hi Robin!!

WELCOME HOME and WELCOME BACK to the board too!!

You have all my best wishes and thoughts. I hope you get some relief from the dumping and the chest pains. Honestly, it is just so amazing what everyone here has put up with!

What do you do for a living that you are considering a job change? I am trying to decide how soon to go back to work after my Heller. I have thought about 3 weeks- I have an office job but I do have to move around, squat, bend etc. on a regular basis.

I know so many others will be here to give you specific support that I can’t give you because I have not been through what you have but I am here for moral support and lots of good thoughts are being sent your way!! You and I will both be wishing for the passage of time to bring some good relief!!

Two wishes are better than one

Dawn

I'm home from surgery

Dawn it was good to see postings from you. I too am just home yesterday from the Mayo in Minnesota and the surgery went very well. I had taken my computer with me to hospital to be able to talk and keep up with the group but as you look back I was unable to put letters on the page all to well with the meds they had me on. I go to my regular doctor here as he is working with them so I don't have to keep flying back and forth. I am still having a bit of an oxygen problem but they are very sure there are no leaks. The dumping is a HUGE problem. I am trying to get it under control with the Imodium as I have seen on this site and will talk to dr about today. The chest pains are coming and going. Dr. Nichols says it is mainly stress and lifting. I have to stay calm and not lift anything more than 5 pounds. It's hard but I am trying. He is ready to go back in and do a reconstructive e if the chest pains persist, however I am opting that if I change my life style and job etc...maybe I can get the chest pains under control. It is a HUGE PLEASURE to feel the liquids actually go down my throat!!!!! WOWI am excited and feeling so good in that respect. It is enough right now to keep me going. I too cannot wait to try other foods and am sooo tempted...but good things come to those who wait. :) I will be patient and allow the healing process. They told me about 3 months will all will be healed and will be able to have a big fat juicy steak! AH...summer's coming! Thank you all again. Robin in NY

Good Morning Robin and everyone!

You are SO right about how aggravating and exhausting it is to try to explain what is going on with our bodies and how GRATIFYING and RELAXING it is to just be able to have others totally understand you and never "question or judge you or doubt you". Good Luck with your job stress. I am the last person to give you advice on how to not be stressed at work- I am a stress case at my job. I have changed jobs a few times in my career (all within my field) and each time I have taken a lower paying, more part time, less stressful job and have never regretted it, but I have never gotten to job nirvana.

You too have lost a lot of weight! Everyone tells me how incredibly great I look and they want to know how I lost that much weight and they exclaim that I must feel terrific! Sometimes I just say "Thanks" and other times I debate whether to actually tell them that I starved and regurgitated everything I ate for a year and frankly I felt like SH**!!

On a much more positive note though I have found some great smoothie cookbooks and my surgeon said I could eat things that I could drink through a straw or slurp off a spoon.....

Well, 4 days after surgery I find that I am getting some energy from being hydrated, drinking some boost etc. GOD- I forgot what if feels like to have some energy!!!!

I don't want to get into any copyright trouble, but I would love to share some of the recipes I have been making in the blender. This morning I had an "apple pie smoothie" which was made of low fat vanilla yogurt, applesauce, apple juice, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon..... it was really yummy. I find I can't eat a lot- get full quickly and cough if I eat too much (more than a cup or so) but god it feels good to have "real food". For lunch I made a smoothie out of milk, cooked broccoli, cooked canned potato, shredded cheddar cheese, soy powder, garlic powder and tumeric and curry powder all blended smooth- this recipe came out thick so I added a bunch of the water that I cooked the broccoli in until it was drinkable consistency.

Well, I am probably boring everyone with my food obsessions and I hope I am not torturing anyone on this board who can't eat anything..... believe me I have been there!!

Had another episode of chest pain yesterday afternoon and I am thinking that it is a spasm.... crap. My spasms had completely disappeared since last summer. Does anybody out there know if this is likely to be a temporary thing after surgery?

All my best wishes to everyone out there!!
