Guest guest
Hi Dee, Welcome to the group. It is perfectly normal to be nervous, and weve all been there at one time or another. It doesnt matter whether we are parents facing this, or C-toma sufferers ourselves. Surgery is still a scary thing. Find out whether your hospital does tours for you and your son. Sometimes it helps to see the rooms and instruments and whatnot, before hand. It wont feel quite so foreign on the day of surgery. Try and stay positive, I know this is hard but you are doing the right and necessary thing for your son. After being thru this twice now with my son, I can tell you that the waiting is sometimes the hardest part. Kids tend to bounce back very quickly after this surgery, and many parents will tell you this. I wish you the best of luck, and a speedy recovery for your son. Keep us posted on his progress. No question is too small for this forum, so ask away!!!! Sincerely, Renonda (s Mom)
Guest guest
Hi My son also had surgery dec 2002 and he was only one year and a half old at the time. Of course I ws so much nervous but everything went well and as everyone says, kids do recover really fast. The surgery was in the morning and in the afternoon we went back home. He is doing great and we have checked and the cholesteatoma has not come back. If you need and more info, feel free to email me. Hope all goes well for your son Ana
Guest guest
Hi Dee, Our 6 year old daughter had her first surgery on December 5th, and has recovered remarkably well. She was back to school less than a week after surgery, and back to all normal activities (gym class, etc.) only four weeks later. Hope this is encouraging to you to know that in hindsight, the surgery is just a blip in the whole scheme of things. I won't bore everyone again, but if you look back at the old postings on the cholesteatoma group website (I think they're there), I wrote a long story about 's surgery experience a few days post-surgery. If you can't find it and want it, let me know and I'll send it to you. To keep yourself from falling apart, just know that you both will feel so much better once the surgery and immediate recovery are over (a couple of days for us), and a month from surgery you will both feel even better. Also know that there are lots of folks here pulling for you, and by doing everything you can now to have his surgery, you're lessening the damage that the ctoma would cause. Is he having outpatient surgery? Can you get a pre-op tour of the hospital? Best wishes, ---- Original Message ----- From: Scrappy Dee cholesteatoma Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 4:04 PM Subject: Advice for me and my son Hello. My 5 year old son, Brody, was diagnosed with a Cholesteatoma last year. His surgery is scheduled for Feb. 4 - 3 weeks away. I am very nervous about this and I am hoping someone could share similar experiences and give me peace of mind. He also has Juvenille arthritis that was diagnosed at the age of 3, and has hypermobile joints. Throughout his pain, Brody is still the most sweet and caring little guy I have ever known and it breaks my heart to see him go through all this.I need to know what to expect after the surgery and, if possible, how to keep myself from falling apart. I seem to be getting weaker as the surgery comes nearer.Hope to hear from somebody soon, Dee_________________________________________________________________Tired of spam? That is so young. I'm glad your son is doing well and I am feeling better about Brody's surgery. Thanks. Dee
