Patty,

Glad to hear that Brady's surgery went well and he's on the road to recovery. Thank God you went ahead with it despite insurance problems, since as I explained in a previous post, our doc says that you can't rely on the CT scan. My daughter's c-toma has gone into the attic as well, all three times it has recurred. If you find out any info on the attic situation, please fwd it to me, as I don't know much about it either, except for the fact that it is closer to the brain.

Please keep us posted on his progress, ok?

Take care,

Brady's surgery went well, not a tear was shed when he left us. The

doc. said he had never had a better patient:) Except for the

throwing up he is doing well. Right after the surgery he said his

face hurt but has not mentioned it lately. The doc. said it was a

good thing we did it today because it was more extensive than it

looked on the scan. He said it has even gotten into the attic which

he said is close to the brain. I've tried to research this, cant

find anything on the attic of the ear, if any of you know about it

let me know. He did repair some of the bones and even used some

cartlidge from the outer ear. He did the whole surgery through the

ear canal (about 2 hrs), which he said was very difficult, but he

does feel confident that he got all of it, but he said there is no

guarentee. We will see him in 3 weeks, have a hearing test in about

3 months and then he said he will see him every 6 months to make sure

it is not growing back. Does this sound like a good plan to you

experienced ctomers? Ya know we were so upset about our insurance

problem, but if we had not had the problem the surgery would have

been put off for a while because every doc who saw the ct scan said

it was not much to worry about, and when they get in there it is

getting close to the brain so Praise God for the Insurance Problems!!!

Let me know what yall think, Patty

Glad that all is well with Brady. The doc's plan sounds just like mine was.

My cholesteatoma was through the bone between the ear and brain but not

through the dura yet. Close call but the doc said I had about 2 years

before it caused me any brain problems.

As for insurance - as you have seen sometimes the bad is for our good!

Cheers!

Here is a good article on Cholesteatoma which mentions the attic

portion of the canal. There are 3 pages of info at this site.

Hope your son is feeling better soon.
