Just got my 2nd ctoma removal from the same ear on 1-6-06. Bad thing

is this time they gotta replace the inner ear with a prostetic

(whatever that means). But, anyway here I sit dizzy and dealing with

some soreness. I go in thursday for the surgery follow up. This is not

much fun anymore. I wont get the bionic ear until this surgery heals,

doc says it was worse than he thought and wants to make sure this

heals and the infection goes away before he puts in the plastic parts.

I tried to take a shower today and had to do the vasaline cotton ball

thing, anybody have any tips?

Hello, I still do the vaseline on cotton ball and

hold a plastic cup over my left ear, I really do not

want this coming back! They go back in at the end of

March to check it out, hope it is not there and I can

move on. I still have pain especially where the

mastoid bone was removed, soreness around the cut

area, dizziness is not as bad, but still there. I

also have the non-stop ringing and when I brush my

teeth and chew food, a metallic taste. I had mine

mainly on the facial nerve and in mastoid bone, only a

little on one hearing bone. Surgery was 3 hours Sept.

30, 2005. I go for hearing test tomorrow. Good luck

to ya and everyone else on here.

Hi , Good luck to your hearing test tomorrow. I had my surgery 15 days earlier than you had, and I have occasionally mild pain at the cut area, and mild ringing sound sometimes. May be my case was not as serious. My hearing was back about 80%, I guess I should not complain about it. Still have drainage sometimes, and very itchy at times when I can feel the fluid floating around inside my ear. But nothing drains out though even if I tilt my head one side. Its kind of funny in public area that I suddenly tilted my head, hoping that the fluid will flow out. Do you have this problem? Fear of recurrent ctoma, I too still not letting any water get into my ear. I have stop using vaseline now, just the cotton ball, plus transparent waterproof surgical tapes all over it. A little painful to peel off, especially with hair stucked on it. But it works well. So far the cotton is still dry

after washing hair. I used cup + shower cap for shower only. I found it hard to use the cup when washing hair as the cup keeps dropping off when I rinse my hair. Take care, and lets have ctoma free forever. My ENT told me to use silicon ear plugs. I stick those in my ear and

then they are pliable enough to spread over the opening. Has anyone

tried these and do you consider them effective?
