Guest guest
Hi, The thing that has worked best is lamb's wool and bacitracin ointment. I also use plain cotten for this too. Tear off a peice to fit the ear canal, then " gob " up one side with the ointment. Place the dry side in your ear and then smooth the ointment side so it is flush with the skin surfaces of your ear canal. I also find that washing my hair with the hear down facing the water gives me more control over where the water goes as opposed to leaning your head back into the water. BTW: until otherwise advised by your doc, you should always use a barrier of some sort to keep your ear dry. There was no issue for me to get my stitches wet as they were degradable. Hope this helps. Years and years of experience here. Guest guest
I had nearly half my head shaved, so there was plenty of room between the op site and the hairline for me to safely wash my hair... but it took me almost a week to realise this and get up the courage. The bag idea would work better with you holding it, whilst someone else washed your hair - it does work if you hold it firmly. Kazz xx How does one wash their hair after surgery? Any tips on how to shampoo one's hair after surgery while everything is healing? I am paranoid about getting the surgery area wet. While the doctor said to wash it in the sink with a baggie held over the ear, this doesn't seem like it would provide sufficient protection against water dripping onto the incision. I think a small hemisphere with a rubber edge would do a better job but I have no idea if one exists or where to find one if it does. Guest guest
We used an empty single-serving sized applesauce container with a baby washcloth around it over our daughter's ear and had her lean so that it was at the top of her head - still had a cotton ball with ointment on it covering the opening to her ear. Some others here have used waterproof elbow/ knee bandages... How does one wash their hair after surgery? Any tips on how to shampoo one's hair after surgery while everything is healing? I've used a large " to go " cup from 7-11 or a fast food place--like a 32 oz. size. It's easy to hold on to the base of the cup while washing with the other hand.
