Guest guest
Hi Ingrid. I have two BTH digital hearing aids Don't worry, wax and fluid won't ruin the moulds. The only problems you might have are infections owing to the ear mould's preventing the ears from being ventilated and kept dry. I wear my aids only when I'm around people and some days don't put them in until 2:00 pm. I'm retired so I can get away with it but if you're in a people-focused job I suppose they have to be in most of the time. My specialist tells me to dip the tip of the ear mould in vinegar once or twice a week. Anyone else have 'wet' ears owing to hearing aids being in them most of the day? Rae Post Surgery - Hearing Aid Questions Hi, I can reconstruction and Meatoplasty surgery on my left ear Nov 26th. As of this time there is no improvement in my hearing. I also had a Tympanoplasty and the eardrum is just starting to thin down. My Eustachian tube is still not working in that ear. My right ear has had a Tube in it since 7/2003. I have an opportunity through Vocational Rehabilitation to get 2 Digital hearing Aids. They are recommending the Resound Canta 4 ITE Full canal. I only have to pay a small portion of the cost of these hearing aids. I am concerned about the hearing aids being in the ear? I have a one time shot at getting these aids and I am worried about destroying them with ear wax, fluid, etc. from my ears. I tested the BTE and was comfortable with the fact that I could just clean out the plastic mold that goes inside my ear and not have to worry about the hearing aid itself. Anyone have any thoughts, knowledge, ideas??????? I have to make a final decision within the next couple of days. Thanks, Ingrid
Guest guest
I have a wet ear all the time. I wear a hearing aid in that ear for about 12 hours each day. I haven't had an infection for two years or so. I don't use the cipro drops everyday anymore. I don't know why I am free of infections now? Guest guest
Hi Ingrid, Those are very good aids. Ask for vent to be put into the mold. This helps to keep your ear drier and less infections. I've had to ask for this recently, but always had them in the aids I wore as a kid. Each night, wipe out your ears with a qtip (don't go deep, the rule of thumb is to hold the qtip just as the base of the cotton tip you're going to put into your ear). Then wipe down the aid as well. They have special sanitizing wipes at the hearing aid dispenser. Connie > Hi, > > I can reconstruction and Meatoplasty surgery on my left ear Nov 26th. Guest guest
Hi, Ingrid, I've been wearing a Resound Canta 7 CIC digital hearing aid for 2 and a half years now, and I love it. I had reconstruction on my left ear many years ago (it failed - only partial hearing restored, and none of that in the vocal range), and decided to get a hearing aid once my kids were born, because I couldn't hear/understand them clearly. The CIC model I'm wearing has held up well, but I've had the electronics replaced once (free) because they failed after about a year. The current electronics are almost a year and a half old and doing fine. You say you have a "one time shot" at these - remember, hearing aids don't last forever. Mine is rated for 5 years (I'm hoping, since the guts have been replaced, to get 6 out of it). Don't know if BTE models last longer, but the technology improvements alone might be worth upgrading in 5-6 years. As an example, when the guts were replaced in mine, a battery-life enhancement meant my size-10 batteries went from lasting 3 days to nearly 6, with no loss of signal strength. I recently developed a wet ear, and went to my ENT about it. He prescribed a temporary (2-week) regiment of Cipro drops because of some mild pain in the ear canal, and said this is common for all hearing aid users. My CIC aid has a vent hole, but since I usually put it in right after I shower, and take it out immediately before bed (16 hours/day), the ENT said that was likely the cause of the dampness in the ear canal, and recommended I blow-dry my ear in the morning. I go back in a couple of weeks, but it seems to be helping - no more pain, although the ear is still damp. As for Tom Hansen's note about requiring a BTE aid for c-toma - Tom, the CIC works great for me, but my audiologist said I might need the next size up (but it still wasn't a BTE model, just not a CIC). Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Best of luck, Ingrid! -Jeff.
