Hi Elaine,

Managing the shower is probably the most difficult part of rehab at home.

During occupational therapy, I had explained to the therapist that we had

a very old fashioned bathroom that was in need of overhauling. we have the

equivalent of an old cast iron claw foot tub,( without the claws.)

That presented a challenge because the room is only 6 feet by 6 feet,

making any movement difficult.

The OT figured out that a tub chair inside the tub would be the way to go.

It would have to be a wide chair with a tall back. I was taught how to

back up to the tub and sit on the chair sideways holding on to the high back

with one hand and the edge of the seat with the other. then I had to

learn how to swivel my legs into the tub. I did not require any help for this

procedure but for the first two or three showers, I made sure someone was

in the house. Now I just take a cordless phone into the bathroom with me

when I shower and no one is home. The chair looks exactly like this. The

entire chair is plastic and very easy to keep clean.

Notice the adjustable rubber bottom of the legs. they do not slide in the

tub but grip very tightly. It has worked perfectly using a hand held

shower attachment.

Would this be anything helpful to you in your bathroom?
