Guest guest
Everyone is different so you should get the advise from your doctor. Wow. Congratulation on your engagement. YOU HAVE 6 kids? and your fiancee has 3 KIDS? 9 KIDS all together. I don't think I want to hear with that many kids around! Guest guest
Congratulations on your engagement! What wonderful news. Wow, so many kids.. and no wonder you're so determined to go for the CI surgery so that you can hear all of your kids, and your beloved fiance! Oh, go on, go to Jamaica! Contact your surgeon, of course, about the staples. I'd wait till what he says. Chris
Guest guest
I can't give you advice, but I will tell you what I do and my experience. I had my CI implant 1 day after yours, so I'm in the same boat (except for I'm not getting married and not going to Jamaica). I have had 5 prior surgeries to my ears so I have become accustomed to recovery. They don't want you to get the implant area wet, so that's why they say no shower. I use a dry hand towel to keep the CI area dry while washing my hair. Clean the surgery area with peroxide and then use Neosporin. That is what My ENT says and it has worked the 5 prior surgeries. As for driving, it is what you Doctor said plus add additional days if you are experiencing any vertigo or unsteadiness. You don't want to have a vertigo attack while driving a car. I am already driving, but with 13 years of Meniere's, I know in advance if an attack might happen, then I don't drive. I am feeling good since my bad ear was implanted, my good ear is maintaining my balance. Good luck, Doug > > Hi its me again... my dr is away on vacation and will be back on > monday. i guess i would have to wait till then to make an appointment > to have staples removed and want to hear what the dr says about me > taking s shower... i am continuing taking tylenol. i feel my neck > muscles is sore on the same side as the coche;ar im[l;sant side..I am > so sorry for complaining about these things but I hope to feel much > better soon. Guest guest
My seven year old son is a nightmare when it comes to baths and hair washes. It is awful - I wear my yellow gloves to protect my hands from his scratching and biting.I actually put a TV in the bathroom and this allows a bath abut 50% f the time. Joe gets a bath 2x a week. I do sponge baths every night - Hair washes require me putting on a bathing suit and getting into the tub.KOn Sat, Dec 5, 2009 at 4:55 AM, tammy shaver <ohio_gal79@...> wrote: I have the same problem with my son he is 9 y/o, and the other problem that i have with him is not brushing his teeth. Guest guest
Do you think this could be a struggle for more independence or control? With my 9 year old we do a first then program which is basically the same but works better for since he feels rewarded instead of punished. I also turn the fight around some. With I say its bath time and he says No I laugh and tickle him a little and say Yes then we usually get into a I said yes and I said no "battle" with both of us smiling. I then will chase him upstairs tickling him until he undresses and gets into the tub. If I know the battle is coming I will run the water before I tell him its time otherwise I fill it while he undresses. I know I could start a routine with always having to chase him but I have been doing it for years now and he sometimes needs the "game" but sometimes he just goes on his own. Guest guest
We had/have the same problem with our daughter. She has no choice.LOL! She will take a shower or a bath. Sometimes if we have time I will give her googles and a bubble bath and she likes that. Other times she just wants a shower now. And sometimes like before, she screams her way thru it. She has found out she will live. I have to help her so I am with her. Elaine
Guest guest
Elaine, Yeah i had choosen that path with him that he has no choice, and it was a battle. His main issue with a bath/shower is the water in his ears. So i tell him to hold his ears down so no water will get in them, i tryed ear plugs but it didnt work. But he is starting to do more for his self with me supervising him. Thank you for the advice. Guest guest
Pat, Thats pretty much how he gets a bath, i buy those bath wipes they use in the hospital, and at least he is clean. I just don't push the bath thing, but my husband thinks he should be bathed in a tub/shower but im the one that deals with it not him. But im trying to get different techniques to try. He is now were you can et him to take a bath once a week, and if your lucky twice. I didn't force it. I gave him a wet soapy wash cloth and told him to wash himself off; then rinse it off with another wet wash cloth. That didn't last long, and he went back to taking a shower. Now he is 17 and one of his favoite things to do is to lounge in the tub and then shower off. My experience is that if I don't make a big deal about things they seem to just fade away. Guest guest
I went for my 5-week checkup today after TKR surgery. I got my brace off. I forgot to ask if I could now shower. What do you think? I was prescribed 3 more weeks of therapy as my bend is only 99 degrees. Very disappointing. My leg doesn't look like my other one. It is shaped different and very full at the back of my knee. in TX
Guest guest
and Jackie mentioned a brace. Have all of you worn a brace after TKR? BARB in Florida Re: shower Hi ! Wow! Those 5 weeks went by fast (well, for me anyway, YMMV). I know docs have different criteria and these are based in part on differences in the ways they close the wound. The objective is always to avoid infection. So you will want to make sure that the scar is completely closed with absolutely no oozing. Good criteria are probably that the stitches or staples have been removed or come out, the wound is closed, and any scabbing has been completed and scabs fallen off. If you have ANY DOUBTS AT ALL about this, contact your doc. Avoiding infection is a big deal. Congrats on your 5 weeks and the brace removal. Moving along!!! My knee is a different shape too. As for the bend, keep working it and go for functionality. Good that you have for PT. Just go for it! Best Wishes Peace, Jackie -- Jackie on Jackiett@... Guest guest
Is that okay now? BARB Re: shower The doctor had to cut one of my ligaments and tighten it as my leg had started to bow. That's the reason for my brace. It was for stability until the ligament healed. in TX > > I went for my 5-week checkup today after TKR surgery. Guest guest
Guess I'll know soon. My leg just feels a little weaker without the brace, but I think I'll get over that. in TX > > I went for my 5-week checkup today after TKR surgery. Guest guest
Hi Barb, This is the first I have heard of a brace. No one I know that had a TKR wore one. I wear a really minor one to place tennis, but that is really more to give me a sense of security. In fact, I forgot it today, and realized about 1/2 hour into play that I did not have it on.
