Guest guest
Hi there...wow...well that's quite the turn around. Has your son ever had the fear of wiping his bum after a bm? My son has issues with that and on top of that, he counts how many toilet paper squares he uses and freaks out if the number is higher than what he is used to. Usually, this is accompanied by a fear to completely wipe and then to flush the toilet. Re: Hello..new here. Hi, My 11 year old has had the same problems. We've had improvements by bribing him to wait a while when he feels he needs to wash or go to the bathroom (try a minute at first, and work up). Now we're having the opposite bathroom problem, he's so afraid of the bathroom germs he won't go, and we've had a few accidents. This morning I offered him a treat after school today if he goes at school. > > Helloe everyone, > I am new to the email list, my name is Marie and my son is Nova and he is 6 years old. We are in Winnipeg Canada. We have newly embarked on the road to OCD, and i guess i just wanted to hear from other parents how they have dealt with it. While my son is quite normal, his issues are that he has constant hand washing to the point where they get chapped and bleed, and he has an obssession with going to the bathroom. He thinks he has to pee all the time. He is on the list for a psychologist at school as he is having a lot of issues at school. We are also meeting with a psychologist outside of school on thursday to determine a therapy for him. This is all very new except that the issues have been going on for a long time now. Anyways, just a quick hello from me. > > > > > Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion. We already know that physically there is nothing wrong with his urinary system, however, some of the symptoms described in what i read about PANDAS do seem to afflict my son, though the one thing that doesn't seem to be there is the sudden onset of symptoms, as his have been going on for a while and have pretty stayed the same. Nonetheless, this will be something i will bring up with his DR next month when we go for the follow up to the psychologist appt. Re: Hello..new here. So sorry to hear about your sons's troubles. Since he has the symptoms of thinking he has to urinate all the time, make sure you research PANDAS and talk about it with your doctor (if you can find one who knows about it) so that you can at least rule it out. <!-- #ygrp-mkp{ border:1px solid #d8d8d8;font-family:Arial;margin:14px 0px;padding:0px 14px;} #ygrp-mkp hr{ border:1px solid #d8d8d8;} #ygrp-mkp #hd{ color:#628c2a;font-size:85%;font-weight:bold;line-height:122%;margin:10px 0px;} #ygrp-mkp #ads{ margin-bottom:10px;} #ygrp-mkp .ad{ padding:0 0;} #ygrp-mkp .ad a{ color:#0000ff;text-decoration:none;} --> <!-- #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc{ font-family:Arial;} #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc #hd{ margin:10px 0px;font-weight:bold;font-size:78%;line-height:122%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc .ad{ margin-bottom:10px;padding:0 0;} --> <!-- #ygrp-mlmsg {font-size:13px;font-family:arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg table {font-size:inherit;font:100%;} #ygrp-mlmsg select, input, textarea {font:99% arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg pre, code {font:115% monospace;} #ygrp-mlmsg * {line-height:1.22em;} #ygrp-text{ font-family:Georgia; } #ygrp-text p{ margin:0 0 1em 0;} #ygrp-tpmsgs{ font-family:Arial; clear:both;} #ygrp-vitnav{ padding-top:10px;font-family:Verdana;font-size:77%;margin:0;} #ygrp-vitnav a{ padding:0 1px;} #ygrp-actbar{ clear:both;margin:25px 0;white-space:nowrap;color:#666;text-align:right;} #ygrp-actbar .left{ float:left;white-space:nowrap;} ..bld{font-weight:bold;} #ygrp-grft{ font-family:Verdana;font-size:77%;padding:15px 0;} #ygrp-ft{ font-family:verdana;font-size:77%;border-top:1px solid #666; padding:5px 0; } #ygrp-mlmsg #logo{ padding-bottom:10px;} #ygrp-vital{ background-color:#e0ecee;margin-bottom:20px;padding:2px 0 8px 8px;} #ygrp-vital #vithd{ font-size:77%;font-family:Verdana;font-weight:bold;color:#333;text-transform:upp\ ercase;} #ygrp-vital ul{ padding:0;margin:2px 0;} #ygrp-vital ul li{ list-style-type:none;clear:both;border:1px solid #e0ecee; } #ygrp-vital ul li .ct{ font-weight:bold;color:#ff7900;float:right;width:2em;text-align:right;padding-ri\ ght:.5em;} #ygrp-vital ul li .cat{ font-weight:bold;} #ygrp-vital a{ text-decoration:none;} #ygrp-vital a:hover{ text-decoration:underline;} #ygrp-sponsor #hd{ color:#999;font-size:77%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov{ padding:6px 13px;background-color:#e0ecee;margin-bottom:20px;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov ul{ padding:0 0 0 8px;margin:0;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov li{ list-style-type:square;padding:6px 0;font-size:77%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov li a{ text-decoration:none;font-size:130%;} #ygrp-sponsor #nc{ background-color:#eee;margin-bottom:20px;padding:0 8px;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad{ padding:8px 0;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad #hd1{ font-family:Arial;font-weight:bold;color:#628c2a;font-size:100%;line-height:122%\ ;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad a{ text-decoration:none;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad a:hover{ text-decoration:underline;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad p{ margin:0;} o{font-size:0;} ..MsoNormal{ margin:0 0 0 0;} #ygrp-text tt{ font-size:120%;} blockquote{margin:0 0 0 4px;} ..replbq{margin:4;} --> Be smarter than spam. Guest guest
Thank you for your response. I will mention the CBT to the psychologist as it worked well for me with my anxiety disorder, eventhough it wasn't OCD, though sometimes i wonder..lol...but anyways, thanks for the link. I've been so busy with work and such that i have not had time to do much reading. Right now my son is with his dad, we exchange every week. Re: Hello..new here. Hi Marie! My son (now 18) hasn't had the handwashing or peeing problem but that has been mentioned a LOT here over the years! Have you had a chance to read (online or books, etc..) anything about OCD treatment yet? Make sure the psychologist talks about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and also Exposure and Response (or ritual) Prevention (ERP). More on this at the OCD Foundation website. http://ocfoundation .org If he mentions medication, just know that many children as young as your son (and younger) take medication for OCD. You don't have to use medication, the therapy is the real *key* to beating it and staying well, being able to manage OCD, but medication can certainly help a lot. It doesn't mean a " forever " thing to begin medication although some people do end up having to stay on it. But at your son's age and getting a good therapist to treat him, I think he would do great with therapy. There are some really good children's books about OCD he might like you to read to him too. Let us know how the appointment goes! (North Carolina) > > Helloe everyone, > I am new to the email list, my name is Marie and my son is Nova and he is 6 years old. We are in Winnipeg Canada. Guest guest
Havent heard of the quad sparing surgery..He did tell me I would be having physical therapy for a while. There is a class at the hospital which gives info on the surgery.I am required to attend so I guess it gives alot of info....will have to see how it goes..Thanks for the info.....Jackie From: rosey9932000 <rosey9932000@...> Subject: Re: hello..new here. Joint Replacement Date: Sunday, December 13, 2009, 2:55 AM Â Jackie, get a surgeon who does quad sparing surgery so you don't have to go through tough PT afterwards. Your hospital stay will be shorter, and recovery faster. All you need to do is try to build up your quads before surgery, they are probably weak from limping around. My doc sent me home with an electric ice machine that works great. Plan on a couple weeks of pain and pain pills, walk a lot afterwards. I'm 8 months out and went dancing in high heels tonight, could have done it at 5 months. Hollie LR TKR (6 months apart) Dr. Coon '08, '09 > Having 1st TKR in feb........any suggestions or good info?
