Hi ne,

I know you are having all kinds of feeling. This is normal and OK. We all had them. I went there almost a year ago myself. 10/21/08. It doesn't seem like a year and 90 pounds less of me. It is an amazing thing to do for yourself. Congratulations for making this choice.

Hugs,

Suzanne

I'm sure it will all go well and you'll be a happy camper in about a month from

Friday. Don't sweat the small stuff you go through; keep your eye on the prize -

a thinner you.

Good luck to you, Bruce. Many surgeons allow " outpatient " care for this

surgery. others prefer one night stay. if other medical issues are

involved, one might have to stay a bit longer, as is Stuart's case. Jackie :o)

Hi

I have had many ops over the years, and last 1 was only 6 months ago, in prep

for this,I wont bore you with all details, as its long long story, I have to

have bone removal that was put up in last op among other things....Im prone to

get infections easy, so Im ant biotic drip for few days to make sure..

Anyway its over, the op was stopped as I lay on operating table, irregular heart

beat and monitor showed abnormality.

Now I wait to see heart specialist, before C.I goes ahead, it hasnt been stopped

completely, I Just have to get heart sorted 1st....

I was sad to read this, Stuart.

I hope that your current problems are sorted, pretty quickly, so that you can

try again, with a successful CI op.

Stuart

I'm very sorry aobut how things turned out for you.

It saddens me.  But there si a reason for everything.

In 2000 I was scheduled for Carpal tunnel syndrom on my right wrist and Pre-op

tests found me to be diabetic and a symptom of that was irregular heart beat and

rapid heart beat.  I joined a gym and lsot weight .  Brought my heart rate up

faster then it came down  to normal level with cardio like a treadmill and

exercise bike.  It's good today.

I hope you get checked out good and I'll be praying for you.

Have a great day!

Stu,

I do know how you are feeling.

I was scheduled for my Freedom surgery in 2005. I went through all of the

testing and got my meningitis vaccine and did everything in preparation. I went

into surgery and was anesthetized. When I woke up, my throat was sore as is

usual after surgery. I felt for my bandage and there was none. I was told that

they couldn't get the tube down my throat and after several tries my throat was

so swollen that they had to stop and postpone the surgery. I was devastated.

I eventually did get the CI, several months later but until then, I felt like it

would never happen. Hang in there Stu. If it is meant to be...... it will

happen. Meanwhile get everything checked out so you will be ready when that

time comes.

Happy Hearing! eventually................

Stu,

Foue days before my ci audiology evaluation I fell and landed on my right

shoulder. Except to the audiolologist I concealed the injury from the doctors.

That was June 1st. A couple of weeks ago I got a prescription for x Ray. I was

lucky and had no fractures. I am getting treatment now.

I can empathize on your disapointmemt of having to hopefully just postpone the

ability to hear again. I pray for your illness recovery. For myself it was a

dream come true.

I got a Nucleus 24 implant that works with the older Sprint and 3G processors

in 2003. When I heard it was only day surgery I ordered a load of adobe bricks

to be delivered to my house that afternoon so I could put in a water pond.

Well, two weeks later I was feeling well enough to finally cart them to my back

yard. Other people seem to spring back a lot faster than I did. I slept with

lots of pillows piled behind me so I was sitting up and did have one violent

episode of vertigo. But my audiologist has now told me that my insurance

company has started paying for bilateral implants so I've the process to get the

second one.

Well, during surgery you should be " out " so you won't know what is happening.

;)

But, with that said, LOL, prior to surgery, you will want to make sure

you wear slip on shoes and a shirt that buttons, so that it easier to get

dressed after surgery when they release you.  If you have a tendency to get

sick from anesthesia you will want to make sure your anesthesiologist is aware

of this so they can give you anti-nausea medication.

Following surgery, when you wake up you may or may not have pain.  I didn't

because the doctors and nurses did an excellent job controlling that

part.  You may want to invest in a neck pillow to help support your head when

you are in the car traveling home, or even when sitting in a recliner and want

to relax.  Or, when you are able to lie down again, a neck pillow is nice to

place your head on because if you are lying on the surgery side, you can put

your tender ear inside the " hole " part, and the pillow part can support your

head.  The first several days you will want to keep your head elevated while

sleeping.  If you have swelling, you may want to have a bag of frozen peas on

hand to put on the swelling.  If you need to blow your nose, you will need to

keep your mouth open to equalize the pressure, but if you can avoid blowing by

all means do so.  Your doctor and nurse will provide you with excellent

instructions on what you should and

should not do in regards to this and lifting.

It is entirely possible that you may feel wonderful after surgery...I did, and I

was able to return to work 5 days after surgery.  But on the other hand, if you

have a tendency for vertigo, you may have issues with it after surgery.  Every

person is different, so you will have to just wait and see how you respond to

the surgery.

I wish you all the best!!  I do hope you will post here after your surgery and

let us know how it went for you!

i have a question I have not seen discussed here before.

It's regarding your bandaged head after surgery.  How long does the bandage stay

on?  I know each Dr. is Different.

Will the bandages be stuck to the ahir where it will drastically pull or what?

thanks ina dvance.

BTW , welcome back.  I ahve been wondering how you were doing.  I thought

you were on vacation.  My MRI finally is Monday.  i see the surgeon on Friday.

Have a great day!

Hi, Debbie: It depends on the surgeon. For my first implant in 2003, I

had a gauze turban which was removed before I left the hospital the next

day. He did tape it to my forehead (and eyebrows, ouch) which hurt a

little when he pulled it off. But for my second implant this year,

though, he just put a round plastic cup (with a little gauze inside) around

my ear which had a velcro headband, no bandage at all.

Thanks, Debbie,

The surgical dressing is mainly gauze, and only has tape on the top,

so it can be easily removed without grabbing your hair or anything.

Generally the next day - at least with both of my surgeries. And you

could wash your hair the next day provided you put some king of

antibiotic ointment on the incision. That was way different from 3 weeks

wait with the first surgery.

Your surgeon or the staff will let you know about washing hair and

stuff before you go home.

And for anyone who want PRE surgery advice, go to the

website and read up about it. There's a whole

section, and Alice generally posts the information once a month.

Good luck Debbie, When is your surgery date?

Hi everyone:

Consultation with surgeon in Philadelphia went extremely well.

I have a surgery date of Feb 16.

This is the decision I feel I can live with...I know many of you will disapprove...but I have my reasons..many reasons. The rest I will put in God's hands.

That does not mean I am not cleaning up my diet and planning to take what supplements I can afford to take....and I need and will need some guidance with this....I hope you will all still be here for me...

Thanks for your support and being here...I'll be back. LOL
