Guest guest
Here are two excellent articles published in Hospital Physician in 2006 on the identification and management of an infected TKA (Total Knee Arthoplasty) plus excerpt link from the Wheeless encyclopedia of orthopedic surgery. There are numerous other valid articles out there of the same nature. And, if you are considering a TKA or THA, I would recommend that your advocate, a strong one at that, have copies of these available throughout your post-op and recovery. An advocate should be someone who is balanced, evaluative, and assertive but not alarmist or prone to jumping to conclusions. Someone you trust, you know has your best interests at heart and is open to a reasonable exchange with you. I personally do not think anyone should entertain elective surgery without someone like this at hand. Another great help is some form of handy recording device like an iPod Nano or MP3 player to record doctor visits and instruction. You may be amazed at how often what you think think you heard is not what was said. Playing it back clarifies things instantly without calling the doctor or arguing. http://www.turner-white.com/memberfile.php?PubCode=hp_jan06_knee.pdf http://www.turner-white.com/memberfile.php?PubCode=hp_feb06_knee.pdf http://www.wheelessonline.com/ortho/infected_total_knee_joint Copy these links into your browser search bar and review them there. The first two are PDF files. Keep in mind that no one cares for your welfare like you do. Rich L Green Bay, WI
