Hi ,

It might be worth finding a new specialist and getting

your ear checked out. I think your symptoms warrent

being checked out. There is a list of doctors on the

group website, you should check it out and see if

there is one in your area. None of us can tell you if

your cholesteatoma has come back, but I'd get tired of

falling back into bed:-)

Good Luck.

Your symptoms seem to indicate a reoccurence of c-toma. I would suggest going to see an otologist. I've only one surgery (knock on wood), three weeks ago, and my otologist is very certain that I will not have a reoccurence. Not know what area of the US you are located, I was referred by my local ENT to a specialist at s Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.

Good luck!

My name is and I just found this board so I thought I'd jump right in. I had my first surgery in 1996 when I was 12 for a cholesteatoma. I had gone to my regular doctor for one of many ear infections and I was referred to a specialist. Unfortunately, being so young I cannot remember exactly what they did during the surgery. (My parents were not very hands on with me so they are no help). After the surgery I continued to see the doctor regularly and after he turned his practice over to another doctor I continued to stay in the same office. I still get severe ear infections about once a year to the point that my ear bleeds, I have a lot of discharge at times, I constantly run into things such as walls and doorways and I no longer have good hearing in that ear. Lately, I've been experiencing increasing episodes of vertigo for example when standing up to get out of bed I fall right back down and when I'm

lying down it feels as though the room is tilting sideways. The doctor I was seeing moved his practice out of state so I have not been to a specialist in a few years, other than my family doctor for ear infections. I'm wondering if all my symptoms means that the cholesteatoma has come back and I will need another surgery. Since I lack a lot of information I was hoping to find advice, suggestions, information etc from anyone that can provide it. I'd appreciate any insight! Thank you!~

Hi -

I, too, had ctoma as a child, and now I have " acquired " ctoma due to

repeated infections. I agree with Laurel that while none of us can dx

you, it seems worthwhile to get checked out by an otologist, given

your health history.

Regarding your childhood surgeries, see if you can get copies of your

old medical records, specifically, the 'surgical sheet' (hm, can't

think if that's the right term or not) - it would be the " overview " of

what your surgeon did back when you were 12. It's good to be armed

with old records when you see your new doc, especially as you can't

get into real specifics.

Good luck, and we're here when you need us! :)

Hi ,

I think I'd agree with Laurel - it's at least time for a checkup. I

hope you find a good specialist to visit near you.

One thing that I'd like to mention is that I have a coworker that has

episodes of vertigo. She has an officially recognized helper dog that

helps her with balance during risky activities ... like getting out of

bed or rising from a sitting position at a desk. It's a sight to behold

watching the two of them at work.

Whatever the situation is ... I wish you the best of luck and a return

to an optimized state of health (hopefully no more vertigo or ear bleeds).

Hi ,

With all that you are telling us in my opinion you need to see an Otologist as soon as possible. That ear needs to be checked out soon.

I cannot stand it when I get the Vertigo bouts, it makes me sick to my stomach.

Let me know how you are doing? Where are you located?

Sincerely,

Ingrid

Hi, and welcome!! Your name sounds familiar -... ?

If you're still nursing the baby, I's not want you too tight at all -

most docs will not refill a client until they are done with breast

feeding. to produce good nourishment for the baby, you need at least

2500 cal a day, especially with all that good exercsie. You may

safely be able to lose a bit, but I feel you are likely TOO tight and

NOT getting the nutrients you and baby need, and are not losign

becuase your body is feeling very threatened.

I would never want " tight " - what and how much are you eating? I'm a

bit concerned here... does your ob/gyn have good experience with

banded pregnancies?

Actually I think you know me from one or possible two of the other

boards--I know your name is familiar. I just dropped off sight for

about a year while pregnant. Probably either dr. kuri's group or

smartbandsters, although I have membership on others too. I just need

to pare down which groups I stay involved in so I can prioritize

exercise and baby--lol. Where is all the time going!?

" If you're still nursing the baby.... "

I hadn't considered that--I am getting around 2000 calories a day--I

have tried less--but I get hungry--so I just eat anyway. My fill doc

didn't question the fill, but did warn me that hormonal fluctuations

could cause me to be very tight some days and loose on others. So far

I am not feeling worried--my fluids go down and I am trying to eat

the right amount of proteins etc.

" does your ob/gyn have good experience with banded pregnancies? " She

is more familiar with gastric bypass than banded--but kept monitoring

me closely for anything out of the ordinary. sugar levels, iron,

etc. everything was good there, when she had questions--she did

consult with anothe obgyn who had more experience with the gastric

too. I have kaiser, and they have not yet switched to lapband --

although personally it seems just a matter of time.

Hi Shrina,

Neither Sandy nor I are on SmartBandsters. They kicked us off of

there for a bunch of bogus reasons more than 3 years ago, early 2004.

That's why we're here, and, for that matter, why we started this group.

Not into any power plays or anything like that, and certainly not into

politics or other nonsense. There are enough politicians in the world

that we don't need any more, in my opinion. Maybe I'm just too old and

cynical to bother with any of that. To say nothing of not needing to

be anywhere I'm not wanted, and I'm a lover, not a fighter, and think

Sandy is too.

We're just glad that we can learn from everyone here in a friendly and

supportive environment, and if we can help others learn too, that's

nice too.

cheers, and welcome

Must be from Dr Kuri's board! Thought so! Please also re-join us

there, as I'm the formal patient educator for Dr Kuri now, and we're

all doing some great teaching and support again.

You're a busy lady with a new baby!

We also have several newly-pregnant Bandsters on the Kuri board, who

would - I'm sure - LOVE to hear from you!!

Well, I'd never thought of myself as a fighter, but as a lover. But

guess in some sense I'm a fighter, though at my old and cynical age

there aren't a lot of things I'm going to bleed over, that's for sure.

I have indeed tilted at a number of windmills over the years, and if

I've learned nothing else, it is that we can never change other

people. We can give them advice, support, encouragement, etc, but we

can't MAKE anyone else change. If someone wants to stay obese, or

drunk, or drugged, or whatever, there is no way in hell anyone of us

can make them change.

And I often wish that weren't the case, but there are lots of things I

wish were different.

Dan, I am relatively new here -- actually, got here via , who I

met on Smartbandsters...(turns out we went to the same high school!!!)...

So I dont know any of the history, but I felt that I wanted a change

from SmartBandsters..and seemed to be the next step

up!!! I already learned a lot about fills and inconsistency from

Sandy's post -- and I am looking forward to learning more.

I agree with you about tilting at windmills, although I must say that

sometimes I do keep hope alive, but as I have gotten older and time

is shorter, I spend it more wisely.

- Dan and I are both here - along with the rest of the older

people - becuase we truly love helping people learn what is needed to

do great. We will give you a gentle " kick " when needed, or ask you to

look at things that are sabotaging you, even if it's not easy. No

sugar-coating from us, just genuine caring and concern.

i did. spent two weeks with my daughter and son in law who live

outside of Paris. so it was great to see them in the flesh vs.

webcam. we met in connecticut where my 92 year old mother lives so my

daughter could see her grandmother.

great fun.
