Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I've been told that a teaching hospital is always one of the best places to be. You can google the surgeon that has been recommended and see what is said about him, whether or not his area of expertise is hip replacement, etc. On the Duke website there might be a bio about him as well that will give you a start. Good luck to your hubby! Lynn THR 26 Oct 09 Dr. E. Rabbitt What other people think of me is none of my business! My husband and I live in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area and I'm trying to figure out how to find a great hip replacement surgeon. My husband is 55 and his hip joint apparently was malformed at birth. He now has arthtitis in that joint that is causing significant pain and is affecting his ability to walk. He's taking anti-inflammatory medication, but it is losing effectiveness and he thinks he needs to go ahead and have the replacement done. My husband has a referral to a Duke orthopedic surgeon through our primary care physician, but I'd like to figure out who is the best person to see in the area. Hubby had a surgery in the past to repair a smashed knuckle. That surgery was done by an orthopedic doctor who was recommended by a primary care physician, and it turned out that the surgeon did not have very much experience and he probably should not have tackled that job. Does anyone have suggestions on how to find a hip replacement surgeon with lots of experience and a record of successful replacements? Thanks! ------------------------------------
