Guest guest
Hi everyone: I had a THR of left hip on June 30, 2010. I am 4 weeks out as of today. I have a few questions to ask of all of you who have undergone this surgery. I have had the surgery done on my very outer left leg/hip area, about an 8 inch incision, 18 staples (have been removed). What kind of approach is that called? I am also in p/t 3x per week and am having difficulty with my hip reflexor and psoas. I simply cannot do a leg raise at all. My therapist says that some people have difficulty with abductors after surgery and some have frontal hip reflexor/psoas problems. Anyone out there have this experience and how long did it take to get the ability to move back? I am on one crutch but feel that until I am able to get these muscles to work I will be unable to get off the crutch. Any insight, input would be appreciated! Thanks. Guest guest
I remember clearly not being able to lift the operated leg for awhile. The staples came out on the day I left the rehab. That made movement a lot easier. Are you working towards using a cane? I used a walker in the rehab at first and left using a cane. Doing your physical therapy will get you lifting that leg, even though it is totally impossible at first. Then one day you can lift it one time only and then after that you grit your teeth and try for 5 times. How many days a week do you have PT? I had it twice a week at home for about three weeks and then when off the blood thinners and able to drive, did PT with a local Physical Therapist. Do you have a home health nurse coming in to take blood levels of the thinner?
