Guest guest
Hi there It's my first time here and I would like to know if anyone has experienced the following or something similar and what they have done: 5 years ago I had a metal on metal THR; 1- it never felt right and has been getting more and more painful each year. It clunks and " sub-luxes " very often and I can only walk 1 or 2 blocks before the pain in the groin and on the side of the hip is too much. It feels " unstable " inside. one explanation is that my ligaments are too loose around the THR and do not keep the ball tight to the cup. and yes the leg got shorter after surgery meaning that there might be too much " slack " for the ligaments and also I have always had flexible ligaments. 2- now the results of metal on metal (for THR as well as resurfacing) are coming out with the problem of metal sensitivity and resulting tumors in adjacent tissues. the level of metal (cobalt and chromium) ions count in my blood is extremely high. SO my OS is recommending to re do the surgery for replacing the cup with a plastic lined one, replacing the head with a slightly longer neck. If joint still unstable after that (during the surgery) he will also remove the stem and replace it with a longer one... All this is a bit scary and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas or information on this subject? thanks suni
