Guest guest
After so much trouble I managed to go from extremely underweight and gain 35kg's. With that stupid PEG gone. But now it's all just about gone again And I am not even trying. Last time I had my diliatation, 3 months ago, my Doc spoke about putting in another PEG if weight lose conytinued. I had only just lost 10kg's by then. But told him as long as food still will go down my throat then no PEG. I have now lost a total of 20kg's and still the weight is falling rapidly. All my friends and people who havn't seen me in months are telling me I look sick and awful. All of my Doc's are worried. One friend who hadn't seen me since Christmas saw me and said " Your not eating again are you? " Luckily I had my sister there, as Cheryl works at a major supermarket and customers heard, that Tammy pipped up and said " She eats so much rubbish. Oh she eats all right. " I am sure the customers thought I was Anorexic. Does anyone else have this trouble? I eat so much yunk food to try and stabilise my weight but it still comes off. Do you think I should have the revolting PEG put back in? Please. Please. Please. Anybody.
Guest guest
This is probably obvious but have you tried nifedipine? It works wonders for me. I realize you have surgically induced achalasia but just maybe... Anyway I feel for you. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Yes I have tried Nifedipine. It does help the spasms. But this weight lose is really associated so much with pain. It just seems to happen. I do however have a lot of pain at the moment from spasms. But are due for my dilitation next week again. I just don't know. > > > > After so much trouble I managed to go from extremely underweight and > > gain 35kg's. With that stupid PEG gone. Guest guest
Hi , I don't eat the junk food, the chocolates, the ice cream etc. to gain weight (even if I would love to gain some more), I eat it because of my ever lasting hunger. Yet, I do try to eat the healthy foods that go in. Of course it's more nutriciant to eat baby foods etc. as to get the vitamins you need. Junk food etc. puts on extra fat, not extra healthy weight, no vitamins, no minerals. I try to eat only healthy things and I try to forbid myself to go snacking around. This as the snacking isn't healthy and as it doesn't really help me. My family doctor had me go see a dietist, this really worked great, she had good ideas to put on weight having a mushy/liquid diet and swallowing problems). She told me to eat lots of cheese (you can try those cheeses you normally spread on a sandwich), to put extra butter (the healthy one of course, with the healthy fats) in everything, to eat lots of yoghurt etc. Spinach is also very healthy and was very easy for me to eat, you can make spinach almost as liquid as you want. I'm not a health guru at all, even if I may sound so now. Reading your post, it seemed to me, that your junk food doesn't help you either. I'ld try to have fluid baby foods etc. It'll only be for a week or so, untill you get your dilatation. It's for your own good, in your own best interest. If I remember correct, you wrote the other day, no you almost swore, you wouldn't go back on a liquid diet... Well, I promised that one to myself as well, when I was on my diet in January due to my surgery. Nowadays I think, what the heck, next year things will be better, but I need to get strong before that time! We've got to do what we've got to do. I'm not easy talking, as I know how hard it is. I couldn't withold myself from having torilla chips myself last night... I just couldn't control myself and grabbed the first thing I saw... It didn't stop my hunger, yet it started my feelings of guilt again, as I knew I'ld be in trouble once laying in bed... Today I won't let that happen again!!! No, I sure won't!!! Nevertheless, I am far better off at the moment than you are. I can still eat, things still go down (veeeeery slowly), I just have my spasms and swallowing problems, yet still not as severe as before my Botox which is wearing off. I've gained 2 to 3 kgs since Botox!!! I am so proud of myself!!! I'm sorry to hear that you are in so much pain! Have you ever tried Botox? In my case it reduced my spasms to point zero for a few weeks (normally it seems to last longer I was told) and it had me back to what whould call: new normal (for me that would be completely new, as having swallowing problems and spasms is normal after so long). Hope to have been of a little help to you and keeping my fingers crossed you can hang in there for just one more week untill your dillatation!!! Guest guest
, I am new here so not sure--is PEG a gastric feeding tube? My husband is the one with achalasia--two Botoxs, but the second is wearing off after a few months; the first lasted 15 months. He is losing weight and eating only junk to keep his weight from dropping even more. Does anyone have suggestions on what I could cook that can be swallowed and that I could eat too? I am getting tired of separate dinners and never going out. I have convinced him to see an Atlanta surgeon about a myotomy, but he is afraid that the surgery will leave him worse off than he is now. If it doesn't work, I will feel extra guilty for pushing him toward it. Dawn > > After so much trouble I managed to go from extremely underweight and > gain 35kg's. With that stupid PEG gone.
