Guest guest
, I have only had my THR for two months and occasionally hear/feel a click/clunk or whatever you want to call it when I walk. I found that if I walked with my toe turned in just a bit there was no clicking. I have a checkup with my OS two weeks from today and am going to mention it to him. I do not have any pain or cramping. I have a titanium shaft and ceramic cup. I was thinking that my operated muscle was not holding part of it in the correct position. BARB in Florida Clicking Total Hip Hi all! I posted (newby) but did not see it so am posting again. Sorry in advance if a duplicate. I had both hips replaced 5 years ago. No problem until recently when I started noticing clicking when I walked in one and in the same leg, a charley-horse type cramp in the calf. When I walk with the foot of that leg slightly turned in, no clicking. Up until now Network Care (non-force chiropractic) has kept me in perfect alignment but it's not working at the moment. Thought I would first talk to others like myself before going to the doc. Thanks so much for sharing your experience if my experience sounds similar. ------------------------------------

Guest guest
, to remind you I had my THR two months ago and have started to hear a clicking noise similar to yours. I have a very good friend who is a retired nurse and she sent me the following message that I pasted below. I don't know her source. Just wanted to give you some encouragement until you can see your surgeon and ask him yourself. I have inserted some personal comments about myself in red........ " Many patients feel clicking or squeaking noises in their new total hips. Usually, these sounds are not followed by pain. My noise does not cause me any pain at all. These sounds usually occur when the patient changes the position in the hip joint. Moving during the night or walking is when I feel mine. They may irritate the patient. According to some investigators the squeaking noises occur more often in patients with ceramic total hips. I have a ceramic cup and a titanium shaft. (see Stryker website) The surgeons have two explanations for this sound phenomenon: First, The clicking noises may be caused by a tendon or scar tissue streak that glides over the protruding portion of the new total hip joint. When you can put your hand (or the surgeon can do it) over the jerking tendon or scar tissue the diagnosis is clear, otherwise it is only a conjecture. When these clickings cause no pain or other problems you should not be bothered. This really relieved my mind. I will stop worrying until I see the surgeon in two weeks. Second, the clicking noises may be caused by very small " pistoning " movements of the ball components in the polyethylene cup. The patients sometimes also feel small jerks in the total hip with change of the position. " BARB in Florida Clicking Total Hip Hi all! I posted (newby) but did not see it so am posting again.
