Guest guest
Hi , So sorry to hear of your recent dislocation. Having been through it 7 times I know I agony (physically & mentally). It is truly a horrible experience. Hope you find some answers soon.  I can share what I've learned if you're interested but know it is very individual as to reasons for recurrent dislocations. Curious what your doctor is recommending? I've gone almost 2 yrs since my last. Currently feels stable but know I have to always be extremely careful and even then nothing is guaranteed.  Lorraine      From: Waspe <mary.waspe@...> Subject: Thanks Jackie re hip Joint Replacement Date: Friday, November 5, 2010, 6:36 PM  Thanks very very much Jackie, the situation has now become very dire indeed, I was sitting on the sofa At home yesterday lunch time talking to my hubby on the phone and out it popped again. This is absolutely agony... No other way of saying it. Called my family and the ambulance and back I go again. The very worst part of this ordeal is getting onto an x-ray Table I just kept telling them I wish I could just faint or knock me out., after the x-ray indeed it was out again. They put it back and I went home that afternoon. Now I am so freaked out I am on crutches even with my rotten shoulders, I am too scared now, have pout myself on strict hip rules Like after surgery as clearly there isn't anything holding the blessed thing in. So this situation isn't going to be a casual chat with a few doctors I have to be perfectly blunt with him and ask him if he can cope with such a problem. My mum rang his rooms, to tell them its happened again. Now I am worried as its getting so close to Christmas, I think he will be too busy to do it before Most surgeons, builders, etc close for 6 weeks over the holiday period. and she said to make sure I make the appointment which is Tuesday. To top it all off I was supposed to be picking my daughter in law up at the airport in Brisbane at 9 PM its a 3 hour drive each way, So I can't do it, so I asked my brother if he could pick her up as he lives in Brisbane but unfortunately it would encroach on their weekend off. My mother does so much for them and they can't do anything to help in an emergency. My mother will now go as I can't be left alone. Families stink some times the stranger down the road would help out first. Sad isn't it ? x -- Re: [bulk] need help with questions re hip Hi , It sounds like there are at least 2 areas you want to focus on. One is the anesthesiology. It will be important for the surgical team to know about your previous experiences and develop a plan to avoid the problems you had. Normally we meet with the anesthesiologist at the very last minute; in your case I think you should try for a consultation earlier on. Second is the problem of your hip displacing. The surgeon needs to know about that and he should be able to give you an assessment of the causes, give you a prognosis for this happening in the future, and let you know what will be different with this surgery that can help avoid this. What you want to know I guess is whether there is something about your structure that will make this likely and if so what measures can be taken to avoid it. You also have had some negative experiences with you former surgeon. Perhaps listing what these are could generate some questions for your current surgeon. For example, if you didn¹t get good aftercare you would want to know what the aftercare will be and how you can best obtain it. I so admire you, , for getting through all you have and keeping on keeping on. Yes, you do have a lot of support here! Peace, jackie ------------------------------------
Guest guest
Yes please Lorraine tell me all did you have to have a revision? I am very worried as the darn thing popped out while I was just sitting talking to my hubby on the phone, If I had done something silly like Monday well I get that. Its my fault, but Monday was something I have done Thousands of times. I don't know how on earth you can cope with it 7 times, when the 2nd one happened I just kept crying I can't do this again. I see the surgeon On Tuesday he is a new one for me although I saw him briefly last year when I thought it dislocated then But having had these dislocations what I had last year was subluxing it was not a total dislocation, as these last 2 times I have had to have it put back under a GA. He told me then the liner was wearing and I would need to have it done sooner rather than later but that was exactly a year Ago, I thought I would get a few years out of it but clearly I won't. Would love to hear your experiences. Glad I managed to get the tooth fixed in between these dislocations. !!!! x -- Re: recurrent dislocations Hi , So sorry to hear of your recent dislocation. Guest guest
Hello My name is Miriam I had dislocation IMMEDIATELY after my first knee replacement. The minute I woke up the whole thing was in pieces. I had revision almost immediately. The surgeon did the wrong operation, used the wrong implant. From my experience' you have to make the effort to get to the right surgeon' one who is SPECIALISED in revision/mutiple revision knee replacement. You may have no alternative but to travel for the surgeery. Ask your new surgeon how many years experience he has in knee reevision and how many he gets to do in a year. I was recommended Dr. Bostrom from the Hospital of Special Surgery in New York. I flew a long way for Dr. Bostrom to do the surgery. It was worth it - he has done a very good job (third TKR second revision TKR) Good luck Miriam Vilner Re: recurrent dislocations Hi , So sorry to hear of your recent dislocation.
