Guest guest
You really won't want to bother to change in the hospital. It's much more comfortable to wear the hospital gowns. You won't won't want to wear panties. I had a catheter for about 24 hours anyway. I was happy to let someone else provide me with clean clothing -- i.e. a change of hospital gown whenever I needed it. You can bring a robe but almost everyone in the hospital uses a hospital gown put on the other way when they are walking around doing their exercises. I did bring a hoodie to wear when I was in bed reading to take off the chill because the hospital gowns don't have sleeves. I wore a sweat suit the morning of the surgery and wore it home. Guest guest
I thought I would want to be in my clothes and packed Œem. I also brought my own nightgowns. But mostly I just stayed in the hospital gowns. With putting on the CPM machine and the leg squeezing machine I needed my legs free. And though I had sweats I was glad not to have to deal with them when I went to the bathroom, especially at first when it was more challenging. I was sleeping a lot! But I would still bring a couple changes of clothes just to know I had them if I wanted them. Guest guest
What to wear post op. Shoes that are roomy, you may get some swelling post op, if you don't have knit shorts and pants get some, they are as comfy as pj's and will stretch for swelling, bandages etc. elastic waist handy. Think comfort and washable, you'll have plenty of time after you recover to " dress up " . I had a hip replacment and 2 knees replaced and these worked for me both times. One additional thing, for hip replacement you might want to have " granny " panties so no elastic is over the incision until that heals. Guest guest
I agree here, while in the hospital which is only a few days go with their clothes, rehab however will insist you " dress " everyday as part of the process, that's when you will want to have comfy clothes especially for when you work with the Physical Therapists. ________________________________ From: on <jackiett@...> Joint Replacement Sent: Monday, June 15, 2009 12:34:54 AM Subject: Re: what to take I thought I would want to be in my clothes and packed Œem. Guest guest
I brought shorts. You will be walking every day. Hospital gowns don't cover everything. Guest guest
I brought shorts & t-shirts to the hospital as well. It helped me feel like a person, not a patient. Also helped with OT " how to shower & dress " training. My OS uses a " Camoped " in place of a cpm. I took it home for 2 weeks. If your pain is managed, it can allow you to be more active & adjust flex. BTW, if you can wear shorts you can camoped or cpm without fear of flashing. The staff were happy to have me in clothes.I went home from the hospital. But I had shorts, sweats & sneakers in the event I needed more in-patient rehab. Be comfortable & be prepared. & #13; & #10;
Guest guest
> > what did you take to wear in the hospital? Hi Diane, I had 2 hips replaced in May. I wanted to feel normal as soon as possible, so I took some work out clothes for PT. I wore yoga pants and a t-shirt to PT in the hospital. I was glad I did. It made me feel so much more like myself, and it was good practice to get dressed before my PT sessions. And when I went on the stairs to practice walking up and down, no one could look up my hospital gown from the flight below! But seriously, my yoga pants are from LLBean, and they are made out of a slippery material. That made getting in and out of a chair, the PT lounge, and my own bed so much easier - no cotton-on-cotton stickiness. Some of the nurses even said they were going to recommend those yoga pants. Good luck! Eileen
Guest guest
I was advised at my pre-op class to bring shorts, loose tshirts and my own nightware - everything to be very loose. I'm surprised about the PP with yoga pants. Aren't those tight? They recco shorts and loose clothing for the PT and for general comfort. The nursing assistant came every morning at 6 am to get me up and dressed. I made friends with her and after a couple days, she let me sleep in and got the other patients up first!! lol I got to sleep in until 7. If your hospital doesn't provide a pre-op education class like mine did, then I suggest you call your surgeon's care coordinator to find out the instructions. There's no way I wanted to wear a hospital gown the entire time. Most of our PT was conducted in groups, so I didn't want to flash my VaJayJay to anyone. lol

I'm surprised about the PP with yoga pants. Aren't those tight? Nope, they're not tight - they should be comfortable so you can move. The hospital was cold, so I was glad to have them instead of shorts. Plus, I hadn't been able to shave my legs for weeks (2 bad hips), so I didn't want to be the Wooly Mammouth and scare people off! I, too, had a pre-op class. One of the best things the hospital did. It answers a ton of questions and really puts your mind at ease.
