The entire removal of the joint is the last resort, as someone else already

said. The thing is, that the bacteria like the surfaces inside those new joints

that are artificial. The doc says they don't know why that is, but that is the

case. Bacteria will move to those artificial joints if they get in, so it is

something to be very mindful of, but not so paranoid that you can't function.

The real key is that if you think you have infection of any sort, go and get it

treated while it is a small infection, and IF it goes to the knee, and my doc

said " oh you will know as it will hurt " get your butt into him or ER asap.

This is consistent with other things said already, but I am just supporting that

information.

I was worried sick because I get so many sinus infections, and my dr. said, not

to worry, those don't seem to bother, but my friend from an ear infection got

problems with her knees.

The thing is to be aware and not paranoid and live, because after all isn't that

why we got the replacements and went through everything, so that we could enjoy

life again?

After my knee surgery, I had a sinus surgery after more infection and I found

out that I had infection, before and during and after my knee surgery. I now am

not having sinus problems. I had my knee surgery Oct 14-09 and my sinus surgery

June 4 -10. So think on that..... full of infection even during my surgery.

That was part of why it took me so long to recover. My body was fighting two

battles the knee plus chronic infection!!

So again, be careful, but live life! dash

Re: Infection from a cut?

The gentleman I was chatting to regarding this problem said he got a cut on the

bottom of his foot and from that he got a knee infection; he was two years post

op. This led to the complete removal and a " temporary " knee fitting. I think he

said that this was also non weight bearing (he was in a wheelchair) and he said

it was not designed to bend.. He had been in this situation for 6 months and was

hopeful that this visit would give him the all clear infection wise and slot him

in for a new knee.

Wow I thought. I am mad as I race around all over the shop and think nothing of

cuts and bites as per a normal person. I have both the knee and a hip models

fitted and I have never been warned that there is any potential for this

situation to develop therefore I was skeptical about his story, now I am a bit

concerned...
