Guest guest
Hi Peg - Re: hip joint injection. I had it done by a rehabilitative med doc - they do it under fluoroscopic guidance. Having it done wasn't bad - there was one brief moment of rather intense pain, but it was over quickly. For me, it was mostly a diagnostic procedure - proving my hip and not my back was the real problem. Pain relief was excellent for almost 3 weeks - then it began to degenerate pretty rapidly and I was in the worst pain ever for 10 days (the degree of pain after the injection wore off was most likely just a coincidence). I'm sure there are a variety of reactions to these injections - if you are just trying to get through the holidays, it might do the trick. According to the doctor who did my injection and also according to the ortho who later did my THR, some people get a few months relief whereas others only get a week or 2. Guest guest
Congrats on your ucoming new hip! I've had good results with injection -- though in the knees. I had scheduled surgery around A 3-week trip to Cuba. The first sets of injections allowed me to do the trip with lots of walking and drumming. Two months after surgery on my right knee,, my left knee could no longer bear weight. Another injection got me through another couple of months until surgery on the left knee-- and allowed me to continue rehab and pre-surgery exercises. I had wanted to avoid having the injections, but am now so glad they were available. Guest guest
I had the shot in the middle of June. It lasted me about 30 days. My hip was bone on bone and I think that the effectiveness of the shot probably correlates with the amount of damage in the joint. The shot was fairly quick and it was uncomfortable. I found myself clenching my teeth but not screaming out kind of pain. It felt really tight in the joint. My pain relief was almost immediate. I was able to bike again without suffering the next day and could get around the house without my cane for that 30 days. There wasn't really any time that I felt so/so. I sort of went from feeling good to feeling bad within days once the cortisone was over. I have since had my hip replaced and while there are difficult moments in my recovery...I love my new hip, the range of motion, & the hope I have for a future active life. Bless you, Sheri > > Hi I am Peg, joined a few weeks ago as I am having THR 1/4/10. My Dr. said if I needed I could have an ijection in the hip to get me thru the Holidays. Guest guest
I¹ve had 5 and none of them hurt at all. And that¹s a big old needle right into the knee. I think a lot of it is the skill of the Doc. Also he gave me a shot to numb the area first. Which was great because my knee felt really good while that anesthesia was working! I¹d ask the doc about it. j On 11/3/09 11:39 AM, " Peg " <pb718@...> wrote: > > > > > Thanks for info, silly ? does the shot hurt? Guest guest
Peg: Both my hips are fake. Altogether, I had 3 injections. I did not think they hurt that much. A little teeth clenching, but it's quick and relief almost immediate. They lasted 3-4 weeks and then the pain returned. If you are miserable, I say do it. I was to the point I could not sleep at night and the surgeon did not want to have me taking narcotics two months prior to surgery. > > Hi I am Peg, joined a few weeks ago as I am having THR 1/4/10.
