I am in constant pain now and I'm taking Darvocet just to get through the day and night. I really hope that I'll be able to get off of this pain med. right after surgery, but I'm not sure. I hope that you are feeling better soon. You will have pain after the surgery, but it's a good kind of pain, if that makes any sense. It's so much better than the pain you have before. I'm very glad that I had both of mine done, otherwise I would probably be in a wheelchair. If you've been on Darvocet for a while you may have to take something stronger to get you through. I really can't remember how long that I took it, isn't that weird, it was only 2 years ago, but it may have been a couple of months. They had me on Percocet and I gradually cut back. **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. Guest guest
You won't be off pain meds right after surgery but I know I didn't need anything but Tylenol after about 10 weeks after surgery and really after 4 weeks, I was taking very little pain meds. What's amazing after TKR is that you are in pain but you can tell it's not the same unrelenting pain of a bone-on-bone knee that you had before. I had a little trouble sleeping after surgery but slept on the couch for two months (maybe a little less) on my back with my feet propped up a tiny bit. That helped and eventually I was sleeping in a bed. It's not so much the pain that interrupted my sleep but just a general fidgety uncomfortable thing because I didn't quite have my mobility back. I'm now 16 months from surgery and my knee is as good as the natural one. I can do pretty much anything except kneel and I did little of that before. Guest guest
I remember now, that I did sleep in the recliner a lot when I couldn't get comfortable in bed. It's been 2 years and it's funny, and good, how you can't remember pain. **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food.
