Guest guest
I think this is great information worth checking into! I agree with you Lori. glucosamine/chondroitin << File: ATT00042.htm; charset = ISO-8859-1 >>
Guest guest
, I haven't tried Glucosamine but my husband took it for a while after a friend recommended it. They play softball together & both have knee problems. He took it several months & really couldn't tell much difference (except in his checkbook!). Guess it's an individual thing. Guest guest
The " loading " phase is somewhat subjective. I have a problem with my (epiglottis?) that food gets " stuck " and won't go down, and sometimes I have to run for the toilet when it absolutely won't go down. Long story short, as long as I take Glucosamine/Chondroitin, I do not have this problem... and it disappears within 24 hours of obtaining more, when I've run out and waited long enough to buy more that the problem comes back. You'd think I would never let myself run out, considering this problem... but I keep hoping that it'll go away. Before anyone says anything about doctors... I chickened out on the testing for this because they have to stick a scope down your throat, without sedation or anything, because you have to be conscious to swallow so they can see what's happening. ~Lyd P.S. I have not noticed any significant difference in effectiveness between the different types of G/C I have used... regarding brand name or type (liquid, capsule, tablet) Re: Glucosamine/Chondroitin > (was: Knee > pain) > > I did think about getting some glucosamine/Chondroitin, but it can be > > pretty expensive so I have to wait until Payday on Friday;) > > I went to the Physical therapist today and he took measurements and > gave me some homework exercises to do to strengthen up my muscles > around the knee and hip..Fortunately he said that my choice in > sneakers were good (new Balance) because they have a good arch > support. > > I start PT up on Friday morning He suggested that I use the > bicycle (lower seated one) instead of sprints on the treadmill and > take it easy on my lower body until we strengthen the other muscles > in my leg.. > > > > > > > Have you tried Glucosamine/Chondroitin? Guest guest
I think so. I'm very glad it works! It's really scary to have stuff get stuck in your throat! > > The " loading " phase is somewhat subjective. Guest guest
Lydia, I have had this problem off and on for the past 10 years. It only happens a handful of times per year, but it's scary and painful when it does. The food and/or liquid will only go down to about the mid chest level and then get " stuck " . When it does, it feels like a big golf ball is in my throat. I have to basically lean over the sink and get it all back out in order to make the pain go away. Even water won't go down...on the occasion when I've tried to " rinse " down the food, the water just sits on top of whatever is stuck in my throat and then it all comes back out. My great aunt, who has lupus, has this condition, but much worse. A few times a year, she will actually have to go to the physician to have a balloon inserted into her throat to open it back up. I had always hoped that my problem was completely unrelated to this, as I don't want to be diagnosed with lupus. What is the cause of your problem? I would be interested to know. I have even been to a GI doctor, but of course, the problem went away by the time I made it to my appointment and they couldn't find anything wrong. I am wondering if stress might have anything to do with it because it seems like that's almost a " trigger " for this closing of my esophagus. Have you been to a doctor to figure it out? C. Guest guest
In trying all I can to contain the osteoarthritis pain in my hip, I've been taking Glucosmaine/Chondroitin supplements, knowing they are iffy at best as far as being effective. Now I see this report on clinical testing done and the conclusion that it is no better than a placebo, and much less expensive! Here's a link to the article: http://www.johnshopkinshealthalerts.com/alerts/arthritis/sHopkinsArthritisHe\ althAlert_3123-1.html?ET=johnshopkins_blog:e30094:647092a: & st=email & st=email & s=E\ AH_090928_013 Anyway, I may be rehashing a subject that's been covered already, but has anyone had good results with these supplements? I can't say I have, but some believe you need to take it for at least three months to feel anything.
Guest guest
There have been previous discussions on this topic. If you do a search on the word, you will get additional opinions from a more active time.
