I do not know why I have such a mental block about not taking it.I can also see where a person can put more into the exercise program if I am not hurting. I have got to overcome this road block. Pain medication is something that I think a lot of us worry about - how much is enough, too much, will I get addicted to it..... What worked for me was to take what I needed to make the pain get down to a level I could comfortably handle. That mean I was taking 2 Vicodin every 4 hours for the first few weeks, as my knee healed I took less, 2/6 hours, 1/4 hours. And now that I'm two months and 1 week post surgery, (TKR Oct. 22)I haven't taken any Vicodin at all for about two week. My suggestion is to listen to your body, pain for pain's sake isn't good for anyone. Adequate pain relief allowed me to do all my physical therapy and just be generally more active. At this point, I rarely even use Tylenol for the operated knee - it doesn't really hurt. If I'm out walking around for a few hours and then it will ache and I'll ice it.
