Gene,

I am thrilled to hear you've had such a successful surgery and quick return

to walking w/o support. Keep up the great work.

Those staples are such a pain when they are due to come out, aren't they?

And it doesn't exactly tickle to get them out, either.

Hi,

I have to agree with Gene. The staples coming out of my bi-lateral

TKR far from tickled. It didn't help that a couple seemed dtermined

to stay in and the doctor yanked on the pretty hard. But if that's

the worst discomfort you feel then it's well worth the trip.

Hello Gene! I am very glad to hear of your progress, how wonderful

for you. May I ask a few questions? I am scheduled for a THR on

October 22, I am nervous since this is new to me and it will be the

biggest surgery I have ever had. You mentioned your surgery was on

September 7 and now you are able to drive? My reguar practioner and

my surgeon both told me that it would be at least 2 months for me to

drive. I know that everyone is different, but did you have a

different type of surgery? Thanks for listening :)

Hi Gene,

You're right it woke me up real fast. Anyway, the numbness slowly

dissipates over a year or so, but you get used to it after a couple of

months.

Hey Heidi,

sorry to hear you have to go through this, but could be worse

things in life :) I had a THR, metal on metal with larger ball,

not sure that makes any difference or not. I did have surgery on the

7th, which was friday, and went home on monday, and was lucky enough

that I did not have to take any pain pills sense I have been home.

the incision was sore and the muscles in my hip and buttocks were

sore but not bad.

my Dr origonally told me 6 weeks of no driving, but I had my left hip

done and your left leg does nothing while you drive (unless you have

a standard transmisssion) so he said I could drive based on that,

but you also have to consider I live in a rural area and have very

little traffic compared to a city....

I also am 6'3 " 250lbs and work out alot, so I think that is helping

me with my recovery....I am walking at home and at work with no

crutches, if I go outside or around alot of people I use crutches.

I hope this helps, you can email if you like at gknouse@...

dont' be nervous, it is a major surgery, but the pain will go away

and the feeling after is amazing to walk again without hurting....

good luck

Alan,

yea, I have other scars, 6 to be exact from a motorcycle wreck

and two of them are still numb after 4 yrs, it is strange how that

works, my hip scar is getting better by the day so I think its going

to be " normal " here soon......
