Guest guest
That's wonderful news about ! How did you accomplish this miracle? Maybe you know something that will help the rest of us. I for one would welcome any tips, since my daughter seems to be regressing at this particular time. Very disheartening, after the great year she had last year. Guest guest
Tamara, I guess the first thing that has helped is prayer and lots of it. On a more worldly side, I think I saw the most improvement after she was in a special ed class for 4th & 5th graders with a very special male teacher who just seemed to us parents to be like a " Pied Piper " . He seemed to be able to get those in his class to do way beyond their perceived abilities. He said he treated them as a person - made them feel like they wanted to try their very best for him. He said he understood where they came from because he had had a learning disability when he was young. The second thing was the right, and I emphasize the right behavioral counselor. By right I mean the one that seemed to respond to. The first time I saw and heard him I thought, " Oh no - he will never do, " but for some reason she responded to him and he has brought her far. Of course, continual conversation with her teachers, always asking to talk with new ones and going through everything with them helped also. Please don't get discouraged about regression - it happened many many times with . Her counselor would say he would " get one weed pulled and two more would pop up. " I heard once the reason for regression, but can't remember it - but it is to be expected. But in the long run, I believe each autistic person is a very special person and each will have their own personality, which i think we need to respect. Guest guest
I hate the measuring. I don't think it is very accurate. Wish there was some other way to measure than with the ruler on a hinge. I have done some exercises where I think I am way past 90 degrees, but they say I am no where near it. Viewing it from my angle, it looks so different. Makes it hard to understand. Progress is all I want. Just finished with heating pad on my knee. Now time to work on it. Guest guest
Dot, you're doing fine. When my flex measured 120, the therapist said it'd be slower-going now. She said it goes up faster early-on & our progress then slows down the closer we get to " normal range. " Keep up the good work ! Guest guest
Don't exactly understand what you mean. I have not had anything like that. I have had a roll under my knee initially when I was trying to bend my knee down to the table. That was in my initial therapy. Now the only time I have a roll under my knee is when they are icing or heating it at therapy. Otherwise haven't tried anything with a ball. Please tell more! Guest guest
That¹s great Dot! I suspect it is all the hard work you are doing, and doing so consistently, that is making the differences. I have also noticed that I reach ³plateaus² where things seem to stop. If I just keep doing what I¹m doing, something changes. One of the things I have is the ³futebol², actually for a Brazillian game but someone in my area sells them and has many customers rehabbing from knee replacements. This is one of the things recommended in the ³Owners Manual² book. I haven¹t used it very much actually. I bought one for a friend of mine who had surgery a year before me and had stopped exercising and was losing her flex. She is a body worker (Rosen Method) and found lots of ways to use it. I used it last night and today my knee is much looser. I¹m working on going down stairs. Was able to do a few today. Of course it may be the gardening that¹s helping. Who knows. I¹ve been off my pre-surgery exercise plan after hurting myself gardening last week. Got back on it yesterday. Did great on the bike, all my stretches, 350 leg lifts, and rolled the ball around. I¹m pretty strong but have 2 weeks to continue working on those quads and getting the surgical knee in the best condition possible so it can support me in rehabbing the next one. Anyway I do think the futebol is worth using along with all the other stuff.. It¹s something you can do while sitting. Just roll it around. And any smallish ball will do. I like the measuring. I only had a few weeks of outpatient therapy and haven¹t been measured for a very long time. It helped to motivate me to push on with my exercises. It is hard to tell how we¹re doing otherwise. And I appreciated the ³reward² of a better number. I wonder where I am now.... It¹s interesting to hear about the different PT that people receive. Obvioiusly many ways, many techniques to work on these things. I was told not to put anything under my knee when doing stretches.Good luck.Glad you got to drive. Dot A curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile. I have " mostly macaws " and if you ever want endless parrot (and other, off topic) chat, try _Allparrots _ (mailto:Allparrots ) .
