Guest guest
Joe, I had my left knee replaced on Nov 11. I didn't have your wife's problem but the small of my back ached a lot. It has gotten better as I have strengthen stuff that hasn't been used in a long time. Donna R siatica problems after tkr my wife had her tkr 4 weeks ago. Her siatica is now causing her pain. Has anyone else experienced this. Thanks.
Guest guest
My lower back began to ache after TKR but it's gotten better over time. When I was going to PT, the therapist worked on both my back and knees. I had been using a cane for at least 5 years or more and had adopted some incorrect gait patterns. Still working on improving but it takes time. Maybe your wife can mention this to her doctor and/or therapist. All the best, a
Guest guest
My back hurt like he** after both my knee replacements. I figured out it's from laying in bed on my back too much and perhaps some positions I was put in during surgery. I don't have sciatica or real back problems. I kept doing stretches to help it, the pain went away once I was walking more and not spending so much time in bed. Hollie > > my wife had her tkr 4 weeks ago. Her siatica is now causing her pain. Guest guest
Thanks Hollie for that comment. I have been spending a lot of time in bed. My problem is that when I sit down in a chair and my leg is bent, the pain radiates up to my back and butt (sciatica). I then have to go lie down again and put heat on my back and ice on my knee. I will use the stretching suggestion to try and alleviate the problem. I want to say how much I appreciate all the advice and sharing people have offered. Until I joined this group, I was beginning to feel a bit desperate and depressed. Now I have a better handle on when and why and what my various issues are and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Guest guest
Even without sciatica it took a few more weeks than 4 before I could keep my leg down in a sitting position. My leg just craved being elevated. I can't remember when this stopped, maybe about 5-6 weeks? Everyone is forced to be on their back quite a while at first because of all the icing needed, and elevation. I think walking was what broke the cycle, since I could neither sit or lay down without consequences. My doc just wanted me to walk, walk, walk, didn't care about biking or other exercise much. I stretched by laying on my stomach (or kneeling if you can) and raising up my torso by straightening my arms and some yoga exercise called cat cow, arching then going swayback. But getting up and moving is the real answer. It's a bummer, but it takes time, 4 weeks isn't very far out from surgery. Hang in there it gets better. Good luck, Hollie > > > > my wife had her tkr 4 weeks ago. Her siatica is now causing her pain. Has anyone else experienced this.
