Guest guest
Once your incision is fully healed, swimming is a wonderful exercise as it provides cardio benefit plus strength training without as much stress as many other physical activities. Hydro therapy is often prescribed for people with joint or other movement issues because they can move more easily in water as a portion of their body weight is supported so it's not as jarring but even something as seemingly simple as walking in a pool is a good form of exercise. > Well, it's March Break here this week and I have my babies home from > school, 6 and 8 yrs old! Guest guest
Aqua therapy is great! I'm doing it now, in fact, the doc wants me in the pool for 6 weeks until I regain more strength (still having issues with it). Hope you will get to the pool regularly for its' benefits. I hate sleeping on my back, too, and asked my OS for any recommendations as sleeping on my right side was tough. He told me to put a pillow between my knees when I got onto my side. That does help. But like you, I get shots of pain in my good hip...darn! Not sure if it's from the way I'm walking (using a quad cane and still limp a bit) and will ask the doc when I see him mid April. I take CO-Q10 for muscle support, plus glucosamine with MSM, and calcium. Lynn THR 26 Oct 09 Dr. E. Rabbitt What other people think of me is none of my business! Guest guest
For the swimming question: Check with your local arthritis foundation and they will give you a list of facilities in your area that have special hydro therapy pools and classes for people with joint replacements and osteoarthritis. Our local YMCA offers a wonderful class. The temperature of the water is 92 degrees. Heat is the important element. Guest guest
: I did not have easy access to a pool, so I can't offer an opinion. Regarding the hard time you're having sleeping on your back--I recommend Ambien or similar non-addictive sleep aid. I think I was at about your point in recovery and found I was only taking pain pills at night--and not so much due to pain, but rather the inability to sleep on my back. I called my family practitioner's office and told them what was going on. They called in a 30 day prescription of Ambien to my pharmacy. They did tell me, however, that I could not take the narcotic pain killer along with the Ambien. They suggested that I go to an OTC NSAID if I needed something for pain during the night. It worked great. Although, I'm very happy that I can once again sleep on my side. > > Well, it's March Break here this week and I have my babies home from school, 6 and 8 yrs old!
