Guest guest
I’ve read a little on hip resurfacing (need to do more). I’ve got a question about it…if you have ad hip resurfacing done, what exactly was going on with your hip for them to suggest having the resurfacing done? Guest guest
The same thing that would be going on with your hip that would merit a THR. Generally advanced bone on bone osteoarthritis. The difference is not in the reason for surgery but in the surgery itself. Deb > > I've read a little on hip resurfacing (need to do more). Guest guest
HI Joi- Oh, & to actually answer your question, I was looking for a THR that would alllow me to return to work in construction & found large head THR's & then found this group & someone suggested going to the group surfacehippy & learn about resurfacing. I wasn't suggested by a doctor, I had to go find all about it myself & find a doc & tell him this is what we are going to do. Guest guest
I replied yesterday, but it did not show up. I am new to this group. I am almost 4 weeks out from left tkr, and it has been more of a challenge than my hip was. I selected Dr. Ferro in Arroyo Grande, because he teaches ligament saving in the knee replacements, plus, he does the Birmingham Hip component which has the best track record over the world for the resurfacing. I am 9 plus years with rt hip BHR which I had done in Belgium with Dr. Koen Desmet, who is a world class surgeon with an excellent reputation. I had virtually no exercise restriction, but I'm not a runner... I do yoga and Nia and walking. Dr. Ferro took followup x-rays for me in July, and thinks my hip will last my lifetime.... I am 63 now. Occasionally it squeaks, but nbd. The physicians in LA are Dr. Schmalzreid, who is very sharp and told me info about my hip noone else saw... mild congenital dysplasia. Dr. Harlan Amstutz is the surgeon mentioned who was a pioneer in the US. I heard he went to Belgium a few years ago to see Dr. Desmet.
