Guest guest
I don't know, I haven't had a TKR yet, but I love PT with a GOOD physical therapist. My PT changed my life. I'm just trying to live with my bone on bone knees until TKR but the PT has really built up my quads and glutes so I get along better. Lucinda, what make/model of TKR device do you have and what is your surgeon's name and place? Thanks, Hollie > I am two months post op for my TKR and have only 72 degrees flexion. Guest guest
I would ask for a different therapist, clearly state your goals, and take full advantage of the 11 sessions you have left, then see. Guest guest
Hollie, I have a DePuy implant and my Dr is Stanley on, in Reidsville My insurance company is contracted with only one PT in Reidsville so I have to go there or pick up the full tab. Guest guest
Only one therapist...not a group of therapists? Too bad about your insurance, have you tried getting out of that constriction...appealed or asked for authorization for another therapist? I do have to pay my therapist out of pocket since my insurance ran out. But she doesn't charge me as much as she charges the insurance company. And her fee is less than the local Pilates instructors who aren't physical therapists, yet my PT has the equipment and is doing Pilates with me. Check around I guess. Guest guest
Ph dear do you mean you only have one therapist to choose from? Well again, talk to her and rehape your goals. It IS possible to get from 72 to 100 in that amount of time. Don't just give up and go for the MUA.... you are far enough post op to push the ROM but not far enough to really load on the Pilates and weights yet.... I'm 43, still with all the p.t. i do still have pain, and cannot go upstairs only one leg at a time good leg first...But, they say its a slow process with me...good luck don't give up....Kim > I am two months post op for my TKR and have only 72 degrees flexion. Guest guest
Kim, I go to therapy 3 times a week, and do my exercises 2 times a day at home. I dont have a pool, and I have checked around but found no pool therapy within 2 hours of me. Glad to know you made it, and praying I will soon reach that goal. I am 63 and have never been active. So if I can just get enough flexion to climb stairs like a normal person and get in the car without difficulty I will be happy. I don't ride bikes, play tennis, swim or workout,. The high point of my week is going to the grocery store. Lucinda
Guest guest
Boy do I agree with you. A few years ago I had a pt that made my condition worse (I had shoulder problems at the time) so I quit pt and just bought books and worked on the shoulder myself. It eventually repaired itself. But THIS PT is excellent. He makes a difference. He checks in with me to see what is going on after he leaves, what he needs to change, what is helpful for me to work on, what he has to do that I can't work on yet. He is individual and knowledgeable. Physical Therapy can be wonderful...but just like any job some really are not very good. I wouldn't give up on PT but see if you can get a different therapist. Guest guest
Lucinda, are you sure it's the full tab? I refused the surgeons my insuance cpy offered me, got the primary physician to refer me to the doctor I wanted only, and the insurance company said they'd pick up some of the bill just not as much. But I don't know if that would work with pt or not. You can ask, not having a choice is miserable.
