Guest guest
People have knee replacement for many reasons. There are dozens of kinds of arthritis in addition to RA, and there are alignment problems which from birth cause the knees to wear out early, and there are jobs which cause the knees to wear out faster, and there are sports which cause the knees to wear out faster. I had misalignment, 20 years of stairmaster and skiing, autoimmune diseases, and injuries to my knees. I got to the point that my knees swelled and hurt after a short amount of walking, and going up and down stairs was getting harder and harder. I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee a few years ago and it didn't improve it very much. At age 53, last October, I had right TKR performed by a doc in Red Bluff, CA who specializes in minimally invasive TKR only. The surgery was done with spinal anesthesia, I as awake (could have been asleep), and I had no complications. I had help at home with shopping, cooking, and driving my daughter, for 3 weeks after the surgery. I am almost 3 months out now and my knee is doing very well, I have full use of it, full flexion, and it only hurts if I really abuse it. I can sit cross-legged and do anything I could do before. It is much better than my other knee! I had some cartilage left between my two big leg bones, but none under my kneecap. That is a particularly crippling and painful condition and I am very glad I had the TKR done - it was necessary for me to stay mobile. I will probably have the other one done in a year. claire Callahan Goodman Hi everybody. Is anybody on tonight? I'm starting this process late...asking for answers, but can anyone talk to me about knee replacement? What did you try before the surgery? Did you have bone- on-bone? What kind of experience was it? Would you do it again? Anyone suspect RA??? Lasleep (a).
Guest guest
Thank you . I appreciate all the information. I called my doctor's office today and said that I was wondering if I have RA, in any event, I just need the knee replaced. It's not going to get any better. I will not be the 1st American wonder. I knee freedom to complete the rest of my highly active life. I'm getting it done! RA would only mean that I have to be considered a candidate to protect other bone joints. I can always get that assessment after the surgery. I've been disabled about a year because of it. I don't want to put up with it anymore! Your insight was helpful....ahh...I can do it!
