Wow, so you pay about 60.00 a month for your meds. In

the states here it costs about 100.00 a month for 30

pills out of pocket. If I was still at my last job and

had a co-pay I would only have to pay 10.00 - 25.00 a

month.

I'm glad to see that your doc. was right on the mark

with your meds.

I checked the register receipt when I came home and

it's even less than that. The supplemental to the HMO

is really worth it, it covers part of my therapy, too.

I have a wonderful family doctor, she has specialties

both in family medicine and epidemiology. And she's a

human being to boot.

that's wonderful. maybe your pill people should talk

to our pill people and get our pill people to cut the

costs by a HUGH margin. How much a month do you pay

for your benefits that cover the meds?

By benefits I mean social security. If your getting social security payments.

You dont pay anything else. Recent times they increased the price to $US7 unless

your doctor gives you a blue authority script, then its $US3. Its all under the

medicare system which is free.

Wow, maybe we should all move to Australia. BTW, sorry

to see how your country lost Steve Irwin. I really

enjoyed watching and learning from him.

I recently received mail from my health care provider asking me to have my Dr.

give me 20 Mg Lex and split them in half. (I take 10 Mg) That way we both save.

They even gave me a pill splitter. My Doc wouldn't do this before seeing the

letter. So, my payments just went from 30.00 per month to 15.00

Elevate your foot above your heart and just move the ice around every

few minutes, concentrating in the surgical area. At least that is what

worked for me.

I have some confusion about the use of ice. I use it if I've done something that irritates my knee & it helps a lot. A PT explained to me that the ice causes more blood to come to the area and carry off the inflammatory chemicals. But after you have an operation like a knee replacement, it seems to me that the swelling includes chemicals that help heal things that got cut, and you wouldn't want those to be taken away by the extra blood you'd get from using the ice. Anybody got the inside skinny on this?

That sounds totally backwards to what I have always been

told. I was always told that the cold constricts the tissue stopping/slowing

the buildup of fluids in the soft tissue, and then when you apply heat it opens

up the blood vessels to carry away excess fluid + provides more oxygen for

healing. That’s why with a sprained ankle we rotated between hot and

cold.

Pam, my PT surprised me when she said that any ice pack shouldn't be

left on for more than 15 minutes at a time. Something about the blood

vessels dilating even though cold. Anyone else get this instruction?

I will still go for an hour with the pack on, but no longer. Too, the

times I must turn to an ice pack or Cryo-cuff are less and less each

day. I hope my PT doesn't find out I'm over her 15 minute limit!

Most PT & Dr's tell you 20 minutes at the most, then off. Same for heat. If

you do ice and heat for an injury - 20 min. ice, 20 min. heat then off for a

couple of hours, then repeat. Either the heat or cold will work better doing

the off and on at 20 minutes. It just feels better for the longer. Yep - I

left it on for 30 minutes 'cause it felt good.
