Guest guest
Iris, I don't know what your son's problem is, but I had a damaged lingual nerve due to a dental injection that was very painful for over 4 years. I found a product called SupremeB with lithium orotate... it has a very small amount of this substance.... and after one month the pain had subsided by over 50%. I stopped taking the product but the pain reduction continued and now, about a year later, I'm 95% pain free after suffering for over 4 years. It can be purchased at mynaturalhealthteam.com or simply google it. Good luck. The best sources of B vitamins that I know of are fresh bee pollen, and beef liver - one reason that both are part of my diet for a long time. I also take dessicated liver powder, thymus powder and adrenal powder to get extra vitamins and protein in a quick, easy method (I make my own capsules for convenience)... Guest guest
I really like Dr. Mercola's Whole food multivitamins - they have the good forms of the vitamins and not too much of them...I don't think he has a B complex on its own. search on www.mercola.com Last I checked they were out of stock, but hopefully will be back in soon. Guest guest
I find the exact opposite. All th multi vitamins seem to have far less of many of the B's I need in much larger doses. So I take 2 tablets of a multi meant to be be taken 1 per day, then add more of the specific B's I need a lot more of. Exactly which high dose B's are you concerned about? Guest guest
Instead of taking four brewers yeast pills for the b-vitamins, you could take just one and that would be 1/4 dose. Or, instead of taking a b-100 comnplex twice a day you could take a b-50 once a day, and that would be 1/4 of a dose. Some of the stress vitamin b mixes are very low in b-vitamins too. all good, Duncan > > Thank you both for your e-mails, but what I really want to know is if > anyone knows of Vitamin B brand(s) that don't have excessive amounts of Vitamin > B in them. > > Thank you very much. > > Iris > >
Guest guest
I follow Alobar's logic in that because most of the b-vitamins in a supplement are far too low, some 20 times too low, I use two Kirkland multivites daily instead of one, and when I don't have those I use a b-50 twice a day. all good, Duncan > > Thank you both for your e-mails, but what I really want to know is if > > anyone knows of Vitamin B brand(s) that don't have excessive amounts of Vitamin > > B in them. > > > > Thank you very much. > > > > Iris > > >
Guest guest
B6 can be toxic in high doses, and some people are esp. senstitive to it (me). I use the P5P form and have no problem with that, but straight pyroxidine which is what is in most supplements will make my hands and feet tingle/get numb over 50-100mg per day. The other ones can't really do any damage...well except maybe niacin I think (can't remember what the level is on that one). Guest guest
When I am not so broke, I have been taking 200 mg of B6, twice a day. This summer I cut back to 200 mg a day. I have been taking high dose B6 since ~2002. No problems I am aware of. Life Extension Magazine July 2009 Reports B6 Vitamers: Natural Protection Against the Complications of Diabetes and Accelerated Aging By Julius Goepp, MD B6 Vitamers As you read this sentence, a destructive biochemical process known as glycation is occurring in your body. Glycation arises when simple sugars react with proteins to generate protein “cross-links.” These cross-linked proteins are called advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Cataract development in the lens of the eye, the drop in kidney function, damage to the delicate endothelial cell layer of our blood vessels, and the unsightly sagging and wrinkling of our skin are all examples of glycation. In addition to protein glycation, many health-conscious people do not realize that lipid glycation plays an important role in the development of age-associated complications. In fact, a high rate of lipid glycation occurs in the plasma of patients with type 2 diabetes. Since accelerated aging is a hallmark of type 2 diabetes, the cellular toxicity caused by lipid glycation must be minimized to reduce the risk of complications of aging as well as diabetes. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2009/jul2009_B6-Vitamers_01.htm How is your ability to recall your dreams? Quote below from Oxalate list. Anecdotal, so no no web references. But I can say my level of dream recall has been enhanced since I started on high intake of B6. " 'Adequate B6'- I've read that the determinating factor would be a normal level of dream recall. I never remembered a dream in my life until I started taking high doses of B6 and P5P (at about the tender age of 55) " I also take 1000 mg of Niacinamide once or twice each day. Niacin is a no-no for those measuring blood glucose because it gives faulty readings. I was told by a doctor. No-flush niacin is hard on the liver. Guest guest
Alobar, You can tolerate high B6, that's great for you. Not everyone can, including me. I think the issue is that my body cannot convert pyrodoxine into P5P, so it ends up causing me problems - but I do fine w/ the p5p form of it...not sure how high a dose, usually just take 50mg. Everyone is different, so it's wise to go cautiously w/ B6 until you know how your own system handles it. i do experience more dreams w/ P5P B6. However, I especially noticed a huge increase in dream activity (after not dreaming much for years) recently when I took a liquid humic minerals supplemnt for a couple months...the dreams started within the first week and that was the only thing I had changed - it helps to pull out metals and toxins. Perhaps it also helped the body assimilate B6 or something, although I was not taking any supplmental B6 at that time. Guest guest
Sounds like increasing b's again would be good ...Durk Pearson in his Life Extension book told us that b12 gives dreams more color. I usually recall my dreams and when I used b12 I also recalled details like feeling texture and experiencing smells and flavors in addition to dreaming in vivid color. I think the b's might enhance lucid dreaming; it feels good to be able to control the scenes and fly in my dreams all good, Duncan > > When I am not so broke, I have been taking 200 mg of B6, twice a day. > This summer I cut back to 200 mg a day. Guest guest
Hello, I thank everyone very much for trying to help me with a good, but not excessive, Vitamin B formulation. My son is almost 28 and is interested in good nutrition, but not to the point of going to a nutritionist (although maybe he should consider that). I will let him know what the consensus told me to do and I appreciate everyone's input. Thank you. Iris
Guest guest
Most, but not all, nutritionists are trained in the SAD diet [standard american diet], which, if you have noticed, isn't very healthy. Best to check out the paleo diet. Basically, lots of fresh vegetables, a little fruit, lean meat, nuts and good fats like butter and coconut oil. Stay away from grains. Personally I think rice is ok, but many diehards say no grains at all. C. ________________________________ From: " leiranda@... Guest guest
Hi Duncan: If you keep a dream log, wake up intentionally after each event and write it down, and generally pay more attention to them, you will likely amp up your dream experience many fold. At some point, though, the dream experience and waking life kind of meld into one event, though. Guest guest
I agree with to look at the Paleo diet. In Taubes' book, Why We get Fat and What to Do About It, he discusses our over-consumption of grains as the reason to need any B-supplementation at all. Apparently B vitamins are used in the metabolism of carbohydrates; so if your diet is low in carbs, you naturally don't become deficient in B vitamins. --Leah >check out the > paleo diet. Guest guest
Someone told me they take Standard Process supplements and said they really liked them. They say they use real whole foods to make their supplements. Their B Complex is called 'Cataplex B'. You can buy thru a local health professional or Amazon.com. I haven't tried Standard Process yet although I'll probably be getting some of the Cataplex B, good reviews at Amazon.com. Standard Process is more expensive than most supplements, maybe because they're better quality. I like the idea of trying these because I've taken supplements since the 80's and I rarely feel much of anything...so I'm gonna give these a try. Guest guest
, selenium is an absolutely essential nutrient, necessary for the formation of glutathione, which is itself used in 200 distinct reactions in the body, for thyroid health and many other purposes. Like most supplements and some foods, selenium can be toxic at high doses and inorganic selenium is toxic, but toxic doses are not given in selenium supplements. The 3200 mcg selenomethionine used in one toxicity study represents 16 x 200 mcg pills, way more than one would take as a supplement, and temporary fingernail deformities were seen. At 1100 mcg daily, tumours shrunk and viral load dropped, hardly a cause for concern. Low/depleted glutathione is part of the process of disease and early death, and unusually high glutathione is always found in humans who make it to 100 years of age. You have chosen to keep selenium/glutathione perhaps much lower than mine, while I have made my choice to maintain my glutathione levels and my essential nutrients in the upper quartile so I can be a healthy senior. Compare notes later all good, Duncan >I was impressed with the information. This might wrankle a few but he says " Selenium is Toxic " . Guest guest
Hi : Standard Process is designed for healthcare professionals and it shows. Most people can't make heads or tails of them, but health care pros swear by them. If you understand them, I commend you. I have read several studies that agree with Duncan's recommendation of taking selenium. I would say, not so fast and would go back through your trash can. Guest guest
I think rice is fine, too, though I don't eat white rice. In the first year I started to clean up my diet and eat right, I drank a gallon of alkalized water a day and ate alot of vegetable and rice skillets. I ate other things, too, but skillets were my staple and that year my body detoxed a great deal. So if rice is bad, I don't think my body could have detoxed like that considering how much rice I was eating. Coconut Oil From: lecody2001@... One ounce a day seems like a good amount. However, not all Brazil nuts are grown in Selenium rich soils. And the folks at Whole Foods have no clue about the nuts they sell. Guest guest
Alobar, I'm pretty sure your concerns are unfounded. According to most info in the internet, Brazil and other rain forest areas are the primary source of Brazil nuts: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/guides/nuts.php quote: Brazil Nuts: Brazil nuts only come from magnificent, large trees that grow wild in the Amazon rain forest. Similar to coconut in texture, the sweet, rich meat of Brazil nuts is eaten raw or roasted. http://www.bedemco.com/nuts/brazilnuts.htm quote: Brazil nut trees grow in the western Amazonian rain forest, in an area that covers portions of Brazil, Bolivia and Peru. While much of the original production shipped through Brazilian ports, today Bolivia and Peru account for more than half the world's processing of Brazil Nuts. One of the tallest trees in the tropical jungle, the Brazil nut tree grows to 165 feet tall, begins to bear fruit at 30 years old and may live 500 to 800 years. The tree is wild; its growth and reproduction is dependent on the complex web of ecological relationships of the rain forest. All Brazil nuts are natural; efforts to cultivate Brazil nuts in plantations have never been successful.
