Guest guest
Card in hand, I waited in line for quite some time. Well, all the alarms went off when I went through the metal dectector and I proudly showed them my card. "We don't want to see that"!!! So, they pulled me aside and went through the wand deal finding more places than I thought. I had LTKR, a large screw through my right knee, titanium, screws, and wires in my jaw, plus my pants had rivits on them. (I never gave that one a thought). I was so embarrased. Plus all the people in line could see what was going on. They made me take my shoes and socks off also. And I really do look like a 60 year old terriorist. (joke). Now, this was at Detroit Metro. Leaving Las Vegas, the security gals were a riot and soooooo nice. It was so pleasant. They made jokes out of everything. I will fly out of Flint, MI next time! Guest guest
This thread of conversation has given me something to think about. I am flying in September internationally. I guess that the logic of the airline security people is that you could have a metal joint and still be a threat. The terrorist organizations could just start recruiting people with metal joints and letters from their surgeons. Looking at it from that angle, I would not mind the search. Guest guest
They aren't targeting people with joints -- they just can't accept a letter as " proof " that the metal detector isn't picking up something dangerous because it could be easily faked -- Passports are faked so why should a letter be accepted. I do think that for the most part the TSA people are trying to do a good job and be respectful. If one tells them before hand that one has a fake hip or knee and will set off the alarms, it makes for an easier experience. It's not the TSA that has made flying more difficult after all -- it's the madmen who hide bombs in shoes and liquids that are the reason. While most hip and knee prothesis owners don't fit the profile of a terrorist, it's better to be safe than have hundreds of people die in an explosion.
