Guest guest
This question is for everyone. I am curious, what was the average wait time for surgery, between the time you and your dr. made the determination to proceed with your joint replacement surgery, and the time it was performed? I had to wait just under a month.
Guest guest
, My surgery wait times have varied wildly. My first hip replacement was done within 10 days, for my revision the doctor and I had trouble coordinating a date so I waited months. The next one was necessitated by a fall off a horse which broke my femur below the pin . . . and because the previous surgery didn't take I'd lost so much bone it desperately needed done. I waited 2 days because the surgeon wanted time to read my file before just jumping in and doing it. This last one I didn't want to do it because I was just so sick of major surgeries and I put it off for 6 months and then the surgeon scheduled me in the month I wanted. I was in significant pain by then and sincerely wished I hadn't waited. These have all been on my left side. I am trying to screw up the courage to get my right hip done, but now that I know revisions aren't always successful like the original surgery I am really hesitant to just jump in there and do it. Guest guest
One week for TKR. Didn't have time to see the film and barely time for lab work. My doctor took me before anyone the day of surgery also. He came in very early that day. Best ortho in Northern Michigan!! Dr. Angus Goetz, the most compassionate doctor I've ever come across. Lynn (PS: most patients have to wait months, Dr. Goetz was booked till Oct 2006, but I had surgery Feb 26) Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Autos. Guest guest
, for my first hip it was one week !!! For my second, it was 2 months. The first one was great because I had no time to think about it. Arianne > > This question is for everyone. Guest guest
After reading your reply, , it dawned on me that it was my decision to wait for my second hip also. I had told the surgeon when I went for my first hip that I wanted to make plans for the second on as soon as possible after the Christmas holidays. So his office contacted me in November to get the ball rolling for January 22 of this year. Guest guest
My wait time was four or five months because my doctor was all booked up. I guess you could gage that length of time on how good he is. BTW near as I could tell the does two to three operations per day and operates about two to three days a week. A very busy man. Don PS The waiting gave me time to build up my strength and do all the research for the operation. > > This question is for everyone. Guest guest
I'd prefer not to talk about wait times. In Brisbane, Queensland, Australia the biggest problem seems to be to actually get on the wait list. It goes something like this. (Well it did for me anyway) The surgeon who did my primary hip doesn't do hips anymore. Either does the hospital. So I was transfered to another hospital and surgeon. The old surgeon said I needed a revision urgently, rang me 3 times after I saw him to assure me I was transfered to the new hospital and would be having surgery within 3 months. After 6 weeks I get a letter, from the new hospital, to tell me I am on a waiting list to see a surgeon, estimated waiting time - 3 months. I saw the new surgeon 6 months after and was put on a waiting list to have surgery. 18 months later I had the surgery. The hardest thing in this area at the moment is to get on the waiting list. My clients are told to wait until they can't walk because they won't be put on the waiting list until then. I guess that is one way to control waiting lists. I get a bit sus about how waiting lists are manipulated. Aussie Margaret RTHR 1990 revised 2004 Re: Wait Time | My wait time was four or five months because my doctor was all booked | up. Guest guest
I called for the consult March 12 and was scheduled to see him March 19, but I had to push everything back 2 weeks so I could get the OK from my nephrologist. Pre-op briefing was April 12, and surgery 2 weeks later, the 26th. I understand that I was very fortunate to get such a short wait time.
