coconut oil v. coconut milk

I need clarification about daily intake of coconut oil. In Dr. Fife's book,

Coconut Cures, he suggests a daily intake of 3-4 tablespoons of coconut oil,

which is sometimes a challenge for my family. However, he also has a conversion

chart--coconut milk to coconut oil--that leads me to believe that we can get the

health benefits of coconut oil by consuming either oil or milk, or both. I just

want to be sure that I am understanding this correctly.

Hi,

Coconut milk and other products are healthy and taste good but coconut oil is

highest in Lauric Acid and other beneficial things..

If anyone has a hard time using tablespoons of coconut oil, try cooking with it.

Also, considering that the lauric acid that you'd drink in mama's milk in a day

as an infant, even at your adult lean weight of say 150 lbs, is fairly small, 2

tsp of coconut oil would probably provide that. Lauric acid is only about 6% of

the total fats in human milk so most people who use coconut oil get far more

lauric acid than they would from milk fat even if they lived on milk. Where

lauric acid and MCT adequacy is concerned, then a single level tbsp of coconut

oil, what you could cook with, is probably fine for lauric acid intake. Where

fatty acid adequacy is concerned you may use milk fat, butter, and cod-liver oil

to supply components that are missing from coconut oil.

I, on the other hand, cut way way back on my carb intake and use MCT

as my energy source. I use about a gallon of coconut oil a month.

The difficulty with most coconut milks on the market is that they are

not just coconut milk. They have preservatives and other chemicals

which I would not want to take in daily.

My favorite ways to take the co is by just dipping or knocking a chunk out

and eating it or by putting it in a cup of hot tea.

I can't put it in the families food as I cook, it would take just too much

and I am the only one here impressed by what co can do. Any suggestions of

how to use it so I will use it more often? Thanks, Sylvia

I put it on ripe organic bananas with a dash of cinnamon.

I put c.o in hot chocolate for my husband to drink (we're not tea/coffee

drinkers). I realize hot choc. mix isn't the swellest thing around, but he's

taking the oil and not complaining!
