My wife is suffering from PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), and

has been for some time now. She's recently found a support group to

share stories, etc. but about a week before her period every month she

has the worst thoughts, anxiety, she argues over simple things, she

gets angry really easy, etc. and then once her period arrives she's

back to living a happy life.

Most stories she hears about lead to prescriptions of zoloft, hormone

supplementation/replacemnet, SSRI treatments, or in the worst cases

hysterectomy. We're wondering if there is any room for a natural way

to mitigate or get rid of these symptoms before her OB pushes more

drugs.

She's a really healthy eater, exercises 5 days a week so the first

advice to improve diet seems to leave little room. She's does not

consume VCO like I do, nor does she take whey protein/selenuim, things

I've tried to get her to eat on a regular basis.

Does anyone on the forum have any experience with this syndrome? From

reading about it, it would seem that 8-10 days a month her body is not

getting enough serotonin, or it's pre-cursor tryptophan, but many of

the fruits and vegetables she eats contain a lot of tryptophan. I

suggested she start with VCO and a tsp of inulin to make sure her gut

ecology is healthy and she's absorbing everything she eats, but then

why wouldn't her hormones go out of whack the whole month?

Anyways, just wondering if anyone could share insights.

Thanks,

yg
