Guest guest
: A large US military study in the late 1960s found that sunscreen users had an elevated skin cancer risk compared to the controls. Also, among those who did not use sunscreen, those who frequently got sun had lower skin cancer rates than those who got sun rarely or less frequently. I get a tan every year with frequent exposure but try not to burn. all good, Duncan > > Hey group, i'm a new member needing info about coconut oil as a screenscreen. I've read articles about islanders using it as sunscreen. but is there any factual info about it stoping UVa which is the one the causes cancer. from what I've heard just because it stops you from burning, you could be still open to UV raditation. Any replys would be most helpful. cheers >
Guest guest
My experience with coconut oil is that it helps you brown faster. So it probably does not help with UVA or UVB, but is probably mainly a skin conditioner. Guest guest
I have used it exclusively for nearly ten years and have never burned nor have anything that looks like skin cancer. I livein Hong Kong, which is the save latitude as Cancun Mex. I put it on once in the morning and can stay out all day and in and out of the water without adding any more. Furthermoe I am a fair haired (white now) 70+ Canadian from the north. I have never read of any research. Guest guest
Like Alobar, i brown faster without the sun burn. No pain. It shields something otherwise it would hurt. But one needs to reapply frequently when bathing in the ocean. > > Hey group, i'm a new member needing info about coconut oil as a screenscreen. Guest guest
Thanks bonnie, I really appreciate that you found a mention about the spf factor. It has seemed to work well when I reapply. thank you for helping me navigate this issue. .............. ________________________________ From: Bonnie Cole <bonnieview@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Sun, 10 October, 2010 11:04:41 AM Subject: RE: coconut oil as a suncreen  Dr. Fife said that VCO has a Sunscreen Value of 15.
