Guest guest
Hi I played the piccolo from around 8 years old then towards end of senior school I started playing the Tenor Horn. I didn't have strength to hold many instruments but a Tenor Horn rested on my knees. It was just tricky carrying the case around, but I attached some wheels to it! Guest guest
Gay: They give you pain pills to take with you. The pain is very minimal for most people. Everyone is different, but the pain was very minimal....I took a few pain pills for headaches and very slight discomfort so that I could sleep.....but not really painful. You will be in good hands! If you need pain pills and have insurance, go to your local doc and get something to help....but mostly, the recovery is not necessarily about pain....it is about WHAT you can or cannot eat! That is the struggle to try and overcome and fixing different ways to make the broth taste better. Good luck! Gail I have just booked my sleeve surery for 5 weeks. I need any and everyones inout. Guest guest
I never took any pain meds when I got home and I had a revision, much harder than an original sleeve. I never really had gas pain either from the gas they use to blow up your belly during surgery. I had pain immediately after surgery but I opted not to have the block and that makes a difference between night and day but they did take care of it with morphine. You will be sent home with pain meds if you need them but you likely won't need them. This is not as painful as you might think. Actually, the only pain issue I had is where my port from my band was. That was the majority of my own discomfort and that lasted easily two weeks. But you won't have that because you don't have a band. Guest guest
gay - i am having the sleeve on aug 25. There's way too much effort just trying to find a doctor here in Toronto who will do fills/adjustments that's why I did not choose the lapband. Guest guest
I to chose the sleeve because I could not find a Doctor in Florida to do after care. I just worry about stretching my "new" stomach and after care in the states if I have a probem. Thanks, Gay Hooks From: gdwh1 <gdwh1 (DOT) com>Subject: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] band @groups. comDate: Friday, July 18, 2008, 11:47 PM I have just booked my sleeve surery for 5 weeks. Guest guest
I wouldn't worry about stretching your stomach. Stats show that due to the portion of the stomach that they use stretching does not happen. They are using a more muscular portion of the stomach vs. the elastic portion as used in bypass and bands. Aftercare... there really isn't any aftercare but if you do have a problem you could go to any GI surgeon, general surgery, or bariatric surgeon. We have many more choices available to us over banded folks. It's the banding doctors that are full of themselves and will only see patients they banded. Due to our surgery type we can see any general surgeon or GI surgeon. Guest guest
I am only three weeks out and I don't know how anyone can stretch their stomach! I am so miserable after about 4 or 5 bites that I can't stand it. I start to burp and feel terrible. So, I am happy that my stomach lets me know right away! One important thing that Dr. Aceves said is that; " You will no longer dictate to your stomach how you will eat....you stomach will now be training you." Boy is that true! I can no longer say how much or what....it is my little 'noodle' that says what it wants and how much. I was invited to go out to a restaurant with some friends and just didn't want to go. First, I don't find any pleasure in the food thing anymore, second, I just didn't want to order a plate and take four bites and have to explain why I am not eating anything. You just can't...plus I don't want to push it. Most of all, the feelings of discomfort make it nearly impossible to want to eat more. I don't think it would be too pleasant to be in a restaurant and be burping after a few bites and the burping goes on for a few minutes until there is room in the stomach. This is hard to explain to someone the experiences. That is why it is so great here on this site so that everyone who has had the sleeve has a similar feeling and can definitely relate to what I am saying! Don't worry....you will be fine! Guest guest
Thanks for sharing such useful information. I'm certain everyone here is very glad that you have been so successful with band. I too, was going to get the band but changed my mind when I learned about the sleeve. You are probably right that there will be something better in a few years. I have lost 60 pounds but could of NEVER have if lost any if it wasn't for my band. Last year I gained 24#s due to pregnancy. I had my baby girl in Sept. I had a little unfill before I was expecting. I have had 2 fills starting in January 2010 and had only lost 4 pounds since the day I delivered her (Sept 24 2009)to Jan 18th 2010. I'm proud to say today I'm down 21#s and now weigh less then I did before pregnancy. But I couldn't of done it without my band. I also started working out on the wii sports balance board for hour and half daily. With out my band I would a gained 50#s with pregnancy like I did with previous pregnancys and would of never lost any weight afterwards either . I also had lots of health issues before being banded. As of today all my health issues are gone! I most likely wouldn't have my daughter because of those health issues either if I wouldn't of took charge of my life and got my band. So I'm very thankful for my band and the way it change me as a person I love me again. I read daily the emails I receive from Dr A's group is there anyone else out there that still feel the same way about there band as I do? When I got mine everyone on the board loved there band and encouraged others to get one. Even though they knew about pbing and getting stuck. There wasn't even mention of a sleeve then. I'm just wondering in 3-4 years is there going to be something better everyones going to want besides a sleeve. And how the heck can people afford to switch from band to sleeve? I'm still paying on my band. LOL I know people are switching do to problems with there band don't get me wrong I would to if I had issues that they have had to. But I still feel I have a love love love and some hate relationship with my band. I'm not meaning this in a bad way I just wanted to ask because I want to know if I'm the only one that feels this way?! A good rule of thumb is to eat dinner before 6pm or so and after an hour a glass of water. This seems to flush everything and stop any backup. If I lay down too soon to when I ate, I will have the same situation. Sometimes just having a tiny unfill will also be just what you need. But try the water and eating early first. Good luck! Until a few months ago I lived in Vegas and a 5 hour drive took me to Almater. I always checked w/Nina w/these situations. She talked w/docs and advised. Usually that occurred when I ate too much, and/or too late in the evening. However, there were times when I had choked on a vitamin pill, had a cold, etc., and was coughing during the day...then at night it seemed to all erupt! I always tried clear liquids for a day or two...if no improvement then [The entire original message is not included]
