Guest guest
Hi there, Well tomorrow is the big day. My surgery is at 8:30am so everyone wish me luck. I have to be in a rehab center until the 15th of August but hopefully I will be able to check my email way before then. Hopefully I will be a couple of inches taller too....heres hopeing. The Dr said that he is going to make three cuts in my spine and try to straighten them as much as possible. I will then have rods put back in and then I get to be in a brace for three months. My mother and my Dr. were gangin up on me saying that they were going to put a padlock on my brace so that I wouldnt be able to take it off. I am really bad about leaving braces on when I am supposed to be wearing them. The Dr said he was going to install an alarm system in it and everytime I take it off it will start screaming, " Im off " ....they got a big chuckle out of that. Anyway.....everyone keep me in your prayers and I will let you know how it went as soon as possible. Hugs
Guest guest
Hi, I wrote in a while ago about the planned surgery T2-sacrum for my 20 year old son. He has 94 degree curvature, chronic respiratory issues, trach, etc. The surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday. They are also going to correct a bony protrusion on his tail bone. They will do this first, then if all goes well, they will continue with the rest on the same day. It should take around 12 hours. My issue now is his after care in ICU. I spent so much time worrying and talking to the surgeon, nurses, etc. in planning the surgery that I didn't talk to the pulmonary doctor again about her schedule. We did have outpatient visits with her and many other doctors for clearances prior to this however, including the hematologist for my son's blood clot. Now the problem is, my trusted and long time pulmonologist who is also a head of the ICU is NOT going to be on service after the surgery. They have assigned a new doctor who is pain management and another doctor who is an anesthesiologist. I do not know either of these doctors! I feel so duped by this. I thought for sure the excellent, longstanding doctor would be there for 's respiratory difficulties which I feel is going to be one of the major issues during recovery. I am just sick about this. I really feel that doctors can pick their work schedules especially ones that have been working in their positions for a long time and are the heads. I will try to find out more tomorrow. Thanks for listening. I can only hope that everything will turn out ok. Michele and in Chicago **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. Guest guest
Hi, everything will turn out good, just take a deep breath & say a thank u prayer 2 God even that the surgery has'nt happened yet cause I'm sure u have been praying 4 everything 2 go well so now start thanking him. My curve was an 80% when I had my surgery & I was in alot of pain. The pain pills they had me on were'nt working anymore, I was having trouble breathing because my spine was pushing my ribs into my lungs. The only ones I knew were my doctors. I made it out but they said my surgery was only going 2 be 7 1/2 hrs & turned out being 10 1/2 cause my right lung had collasped during surgery so I had a chest tube in for 4 days. It's a very rough surgery 2 get over. As soon as I was able I started walking along with my other therapy & they said that I recovered alot sooner than the ones who did'nt walk. I would walk around my apt. complex about 10 times twice a day. But ofcourse when I 1st started I did'nt get very far. Every bodies surgery turns out different. I've had 2 have 2 more since. My second was a yr after & I had been working 4 a yr & my top screw popped loose, had it removed & was still in pain & it just got worse so I had 2 find a doc 2 take out all of my hardware. I am still in pain, mornings r the worst cause I'm stiff. When the weather changes I can feel it 2 days in advance. When I had all of the hardware in I could feel it 2 weeks ahead. I take a strong pain pill & another 4 my break thru pain. I will pray 4 ur son & u & ur family. God is always with u. Take care, From: EMLJOE@... <EMLJOE@...> Subject: RE: Surgery Wednesday Scoliosis Treatment Date: Sunday, August 24, 2008, 1:09 PM Hi, I wrote in a while ago about the planned surgery T2-sacrum for my 20 year old son. Guest guest
Hello , I don't quite understand you saying your lung collapsed during surgery. The surgeons deliberately collapse a lung in order to access the deformity. Lida Re: RE: Surgery Wednesday My curve was an 80% when I had my surgery & I was in alot of pain. Guest guest
Hi, Lida and , I have severe asthma and other breathing problems and my surgeon decided he didn't have to collapse a lung, nor was I intubated. I also had no chest tube after surgery. I guess my advice is to be as strong as possible for surgery.
