Congratulations on your pregnancy Nikki. I have Kniest which I believe is

similar to SED, I have had two children one with Kniest and one without.

I'm not sure if they can diagnose SED by an amnio test but if they can I'm sure

they will tell you that having an amnio does involve a risk of miscarriage.

So whether you decide to have the amnio probably depends on why you want to have

it - ie if you think you can't go through with the pregnancy if your baby has

SED that is one thing but if you are just wanting to know if the baby has SED so

you can prepare youself for that - this was my philosophy - then you may not

want to take the risk of an amnio.

In my own case [and I am in the UK] at the 20 week scan they measure all the

bones, for my baby who had Kniest these were slightly shorter than average at 20

weeks, we had another scan every few weeks after and the measurements dropped

off further indicating the baby would most probably have Kniest [they will never

say 100%!] and he did.

For my second baby the measurements were average and always stayed that way, but

I didn't dare believe he didn't have Kniest til he came out and even then I kept

looking at his legs thinking that they were a bit bent - but hardly surprising

when he was cramped up inside me!

Hello all,I was wondering if u all could help me. I am an SED woman who is

expecting her first child later this year (Due Date - Dec 22. I was wondering

how to go about determining if our child would be an LP or not as my husband is

of average height (6'4 " ). I had heard that an amnio could diagnose dwarfism, but

I wasn't sure. Could anyone please advise me. thanks in advance!Nikki
