Guest guest
Just how ignorant can people be? I worked for this company, just under 5 years. Thought that there was just a few narrow-minded, people, boy was I fooling myself. I got hired for what my boss told me later, that I came in with the determination, I could do the job. Found out later when I filed an accessibility charge against them, that after my boss was fired for dishonest practices, when he hired me (almost 5 years earlier) the company reprimanded him for hiring a person with my difference. He told me that I was being discriminated against from the day they met me. After doing my job (above and beyond) when the company moved our location, I was being encouraged to consider seriously, my future with them. Huh??? The new location required inner structural work, so I went by and made some suggestions like where light-switches would work, there was about half-dozen adjustments that they could do as they basically built new offices. Three of the up-line bosses were there for show, I guess. After asking me what they could do to accommodate my needs, with measurements and all. When I came back from my vacation, the work was done and moving in day! Much to my surprise (yeah right) the metal-door (and very hard for many to open) was still up, the light switches were even higher then normal, and instead of fixing the bathroom light switch, I was given a wooden back-scratcher to reach the light. After many complaints about the metal door sticking and key not always working, I was given a remote for bay-door. It was told this was " temporary " . I soon went to the city and filed accessibilty charge, and soon got my " day in court " . I chose to represent myself, with a few signed statements from other employees. Each complaint addressed was a joke, to them. They brought two (what they called) their " lawyers " . I thought ok, wait till they address my " ace up the sleeve " . The remote to the bay garage door. My valid point was, ok the remote allows me access, but what if there was a fired and it put the power out (with me inside), not able to even at that point, open the metal door. Here's where " ignorance is bliss " one of them piped-up...the remote has batteries in it, wow intelligence at work! I laughed, the remote batteries don't open the door, without the electricity to the motor. Well I lost my battle and was forced to quit the job, as my work suddenly became unsatisfactory. Everyday there was something, that they trumped up against me. We all have our stories... " Ignorance Is Bliss " Thank you for hearing me! Sorry so long!
