Guest guest
Okay, probably would be flogged if he knew I was writing this. Jarrod's IEP was held today. We have 2 field trips coming up out of state. The first is a day trip to Marine world. The second is overnight at somewhere in California. The issue is that Jarrod just had neck surgery in August...Still wearing the collar for car trips and anything questionably high risk. My issues aside...Mothers! He needs someone there to load, unload and assemble/disassemble his cart. Finally, he agreed to an aide (13 years old and all boy). That done...At the IEP the person in charge wants to talk about his transition to high school. I say that Jarrod has had seating issues addressed and drinking fountain, eating, full integration...refuses adaptations on anything that pose a visual difference. He is completely comfortable discussing his differences, but refuses help on any practical level. So when I get home I ask him...just thinking mind you...would it be a problem for you personally if I get a chair that is adjusted to the desk height for you? He wells up and begins to cry...said that I asked for something similar for him in second grade and they brought in a lower desk and chair and set him out from all the kids...SO JUST DON'T! If anyone from POLP is listening, post this and tell the parents to ask. My son is 13. He is still feeling from my good intentions and functioning day to day like a man. Leave them alone, unless it is important to them. Talk to your kids. Ask them, don't do for them. Just my day.... Willow
