Hi Dan,

I have had this too. My blog http://blogsmonroe.com/disability has

ads that come up with wording for whatever posts are on that page. For

example, right now, I have alot of wording containing like dwarfism,

kyphosis, scoliosis, TLSO, back brace etc. Those are the ads that show up

on the blog. I have had the " M " ads and I don't know if those can be

screened out. I'd like them to be, but since I am not the owner of

blogsmonroe.com, I wonder if they can.

Especially since the Bond's/Costa's statements have gotten so much

publicity. People don't realize that certain words are just as offensive

as others.

Unfortunately, until people learn to search with words that don't

contain derogatory slurs, these ads will continue. The owners of these

sites need to eliminate these words and then they won't pop up as ads.

Though I doubt that will happen. Emphasise needs to be put on education,

what is acceptable and what is not. What is the correct terming and

what/where the slurs originated. I have encounter too many older people who

know what the " M " word meant and are surprised to find out that it is

offensive today. I explain it as while the " M " word does/did describe

someone with dwarfism who is proportionate, it is not longer acceptable

and I place it in the catagory as the " N " word, now. The " N " word was

always meant as a slur where the " M " word has taken on meaning as a

slur. They usually thank me for telling them this and I hope it continues

to wave out when they are in a conversation.

Just like the birth defect ads. I took it the same way. Educating

people is the only way to ensure that just because you recieve a DX of

dwarfism, that doesn't mean you terminate.

People are scared of what they don't know and if they have enough

information to understand what the DX means, what our babies look like as

babies, they'll see a baby. Not a birth defect. I believe they will be

less likely to terminate. However, it is with the doctor's. Doctor's

need to give parents the oppurtunity to see and understand what the DX of

dwarfism means. I know that there is legislation for that, but it also

should contain a timeframe. Doctor's have to wait a certain period of

time before suggesting termination.

All of this because of advertising....

Opps! I sent this to just Dan and wanted it to go to the whole group!

A friend once told me to pray for Natural Oppurtunity. Natural Oppurtunity is

always present. God never makes a mistake, if you ever doubt in him, just look

around. You are surrounded by miracles!
