If that is what the man dreams about then that is what he dreams about. He might

not know that word is offensive to people all he was saying was what his dreams

were like. I really don't think he meant anything by it to tell you the

truth.....Thanks....

Just because someone acquires a disability, it does not mean they

change. Some people become more aware of differences and disability

issues and someone people still do not care. Some people may be

sensitive to disability issues, but not sensitive to ALL categories.

Oh for crying out loud... Unless you know a person is being mean-spirited and I

for one, do not see J Fox in that way, you have to assume that they just

do not know any better. Why be so quick to jump on and malign another human

being in the same way we do not expect those dwarfism to be maligned.

You have to give a person the benefit of the doubt the first time, then educate

(has anyone cared enough to email him?) THEN if and when they continue would be

the time to jump all over them!

IMHO of course!

Cheers,

Karolyn

As I recall, anyway, J. Fox is on the short side as well! :D He doesn't

have much room to talk!

I agree. Until I joined this site for my son I had no idea the term was

offensive. I thought that was the politically correct term. We can’t be

blamed for our ignorance but we can be blamed if we continue to be ignorant

after we have become informed.

I have even had other people ask me if my son would qualify as a midget or a

dwarf. There are a lot of uninformed people in the world and as I learn I

am trying to teach those around me.

In response to the J. Fox dreaming of midgets thread I would

like to present this quote (cleaned up for our PG rating)

from " Living in Oblivion " , Dinklage's first major film. Nick

is played by Steve Buscemi and Tito is played by (my) .

Scene:

[Little person Tito is not happy with the dream sequence]

Tito: Why does my character have to be a dwarf?

Nick: He doesn't have to be.

Tito: Then why is he? Is that the only way you can make this a

dream, to put a dwarf in it?

Nick: No, Tito, I...

Tito: Have you ever had a dream with a dwarf in it? Do you know

anyone who's had a dream with a dwarf in it? No! I don't even have

dreams with dwarves in them. The only place I've seen dwarves in

dreams is in stupid movies like this! " Oh make it weird, put a dwarf

in it! " . Everyone will go " Woah, this must be a [freakin'] dream,

there's a [freakin'] dwarf in it! " . Well I'm sick of it! You can

take this dream sequence and stick it up your [fanny]!

End scene.

I agree!

mr Fox should know better. Afterall he's a hollywood Celebrity. After all these

years watching and taking in media, I'm certain Fox know of some LP actors and

that the term is offensive.

How would he like it if Dinklage said he dreams of Spastic Actors that

can't control their body or motor functions?

I dream of dancing midgets. They are usually scantily clad....

OOps. Wrong list. Thought this was adult LPs.

Ohhhhh, I can say so much!! But, I'll save it for the Adult list too.

PS. For those who have written privately wondering if the Sopranos

have personally paid me a visit; no chance. It's all in 'who you know

& where you've been', not so much 'what you know'. ;)

This is a busy time of year at the University; end of the year

ceremonies/celebrations, new committees forming, new elections to

participate in, new presentations to create, multiple training

sessions to plan, coordinate and conduct. Chinese ambassadors to meet,

mayors and governors to chit chat with and yesterday I was lucky

enough to meet and twice listen to Col. Eileen Marie of the

United States Air Force who has flown 4 missions for NASA, including

last summer's crucial Return to Flight mission on Discovery.

And tomorrow I get to chit chat & have my picture taken with Spike

Lee. (Rose, can we work this out to '6 degrees of seperation' from

PD?) Maybe Mr. Lee can explain why Fox is dreaming of midgets ;)

Higher Ed may not pay a whole lot, but dang if it isn't interesting on

a day-to-day basis.
