Guest guest
My daughter, Hermione, was born as the oldest of triplets in April 2006, at 33 weeks gestation. Within two weeks of her birth she had already been diagnosed as having a heart murmur and an intracerebral hemrrohage. When we brought her home at one month old she was also diagnosed with gastric reflux. Everything seemed ok for a while, but we soon noticed that while her brother and sister were developing quite normally, Hermione was still slow to grasp the rudimentary skills of her age, such as holding her head up, sitting (even with support), and crawling. She is now seventeen months old, and has only been crawling and sitting unaided for about six weeks or so. She seems to be having problems gaining weight, and cannot support herself on her feet, even if I hold her up. We got the triplets measured for their first 'proper' shoes on Tuesday, and while and Melody are both a size 3(UK), Hermione is only a size 1(UK) which is about relative to a 3-6 month baby. We have asked our GP and paediatrician about her problems, and they just pass it off as her being a slow developer. Basically I would like to ask if anyone thinks it's possible that she may be a dwarf? Our health visitor thinks it is a possibility, but even she can't get the doctors to listen to us when we ask them to investigate. She was in hospital two months ago, and we thought that would be the best place to get them to test her, but they just brushed our query aside as if we were the least important people that could have been there. Oh yeah, and a bit more background info for you. I am taller than average, Bill (their dad) is average height, and my oldest daughter is tall for her age. Bill has two older daughters who are also of average stature. My younger brother is very tall, but my older sister is rather shorter than average, but not a dwarf. As far as I know there is no history of dwarfism in either Bill's family or my own. I suffered from cancer as a teenager, and also have a unicornuate uterus. That's about all I can think of to tell you, so it would be nice to see what anybody else thinks. Hermione is a very happy child, but I think even she is beginning to realise that something is not quite right, and it upsets her when she can't get up and play with her siblings.
